AI Development Engineer

About the role

We're looking for an AI Development Engineer to build the AI tools and Automations that change and enhance how our clients work.

You'll sit between the client and the code getting to know how their business really runs, then design, build and deliver practical solutions that people actually use.

Key responsibilities

• Sit down with clients, learn how their work really gets done, and identify where AI and Automation will make the biggest difference
• Build AI-powered apps and integrations, front-end and back-end, mostly in Python, using models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Azure OpenAI
• Automate the busywork for clients
• Create RAG solutions, chatbots, document processing and AI agents that solve real problems
• Run your own client meetings, including regular work-in-progress (WIP) catchups
• Deliver to the agreed Statement of Work, on scope and on time
• Help our Account Managers identify new opportunities, and win these with demos and proof-of-concepts
• Keep what you build secure, reliable and easy to maintain
• Write up proof-of-concepts clearly and share what you learn with the AI & Automation team

About you

• You're hands-on with the latest AI tools and models, and you've shipped workflows, apps or agents that people use every day
• You write solid Python and are comfortable building APIs such as Flask, FastAPI and working with databases (PostgreSQL)
• You've built with AI/LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and know how to get reliable results from a prompt
• You can find your way around a modern JavaScript framework like React or Next.js
• You've connected systems together
• You've got at least 3-5 years in software development, automation
• RAG, AI agents or serverless (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions) experience is a bonus
• You've got a real head for business: you understand how messy everyday work gets done, and you design for it
• You're great with people, and can explain your thinking to someone who isn't technical
• You run your own projects and keep them moving without needing to be chased
• You take security and data privacy seriously, and know when to bring in the client’s IT team
• You have excellent verbal and written English communication skills
