What they need

Energyline is a New Zealand-owned lighting manufacturer based in Christchurch. We are part of the Energylight Group, which brings together commercial lighting sales, distribution, manufacturing and software teams working towards a shared purpose to enhance wellbeing through the lit environment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic student to join us for an internship between November 2026 and February 2027 focusing on helping us understand where AI could reduce repetitive work, improve quality, support better decisions or help our people work more effectively. You could investigate an opportunity, test new tools, develop a prototype, improve a process or help us understand what is worth pursuing.

Your area of study might be software or mechanical engineering, marketing, business, design or something else entirely. You may have completed personal projects that are more interesting or relevant than your course work – what matters most is your ability to learn, explore ideas and turn opportunities into practical outcomes. Your internship project could involve exploring how AI might improve aspects of production, engineering, product development, software tools, customer care, marketing, operational processes or data reporting.

  • Depending on your interests and the opportunity we identify together, you could:
  • Learn how different parts of our business operate
  • Identify processes or challenges that may benefit from an AI-first approach
  • Research and evaluate AI tools and emerging technologies
  • Work with people across manufacturing, engineering, software and business teams
  • Explore how AI can be adopted responsibly and effectively
  • Present your findings and recommendations
  • Leave behind something useful for the team to continue developing

We do not expect you to arrive with all the answers. We are looking for someone who is comfortable asking good questions, experimenting thoughtfully and learning from the results.

Your ideal background-

  • Currently studying towards a tertiary qualification
  • Use AI tools as part of your own learning, problem solving or personal projects
  • Be able to work autonomously with an eye for detail
  • Have a keen attitude to work in an innovative environment

We offer an open, collaborative work environment with a diverse bunch of people – and great coffee!
