Location: Toronto (Hybrid 2-4 days) by Union Station

Contract: 6 months (strong possibility of extension or conversation

Compensation: starting at $60/hr

The client is a leading financial institution with significant North American holdings and a multi-national presence. The client has operations across most verticals, including Institutional & Corporate, Wealth Management, Private Client, Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Treasury, etc.

About the Role

• We are looking for a hybrid AI Engineer / Data Scientist with strong data engineering and Splunk expertise to build and operationalize data-driven and AI-powered solutions.
• This role will focus on ingesting, transforming, and analyzing large-scale telemetry/log data (Splunk) and applying machine learning and AI techniques to drive insights, automation, and performance optimization.
• You will work closely with product, analytics, and engineering teams to deliver scalable solutions that bridge data pipelines, analytics, and applied AI.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Splunk

• Design and maintain data ingestion pipelines from Splunk and other telemetry/log sources
• Build scalable ETL pipelines using PySpark, SQL, and Databricks/Azure
• Optimize Splunk queries, dashboards, and data models for analytics use cases
• Integrate Splunk data into downstream ML and AI workflows

Data Science / AI

• Apply machine learning and statistical modeling to detect patterns, anomalies, and trends
• Support development of AI/ML models, including experimentation and evaluation
• Contribute to LLM-based and agentic workflows where applicable (RAG, automation use cases)
• Translate business problems into analytical and AI-driven solutions

Deployment & Engineering

• Deploy models and data services into production environments
• Collaborate with MLOps on CI/CD, monitoring, and lifecycle management
• Build APIs and microservices to expose models and insights
• Ensure scalability, reliability, and governance of data and AI solutions

Collaboration & Communication

• Partner with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver business value
• Present findings and insights to technical and non-technical audiences
• Document pipelines, models, and experimentation results

Required Qualifications

 

• 3–5+ years of experience in data science, data engineering, or AI engineering roles
• Strong hands-on experience with Splunk (search, dashboards, data ingestion, optimization)
• Proficiency in Python and data ecosystems (Pandas, NumPy, PySpark)
• Experience with SQL and large-scale data processing
• Familiarity with Databricks, Azure, or similar cloud platforms
• Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals
• Experience building or supporting data pipelines and production systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with log/telemetry data or observability platforms
• Exposure to Generative AI / LLMs (LangChain, RAG pipelines, vector DBs)
• Experience in fraud, authentication, or risk analytics domains
• Familiarity with MLOps practices and tools (Docker, CI/CD)
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced environments
