AI Principal Engineer

For our client, we are seeking a AI Principal Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space. This role will lead work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery. You will work across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within a regulated financial services environment.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $149,820 – $198,370 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of complex AI solutions such as LLM-based applications and retrieval pipelines
• Own technical direction for major AI components or domains
• Drive engineering best practices for model evaluation and monitoring
• Partner with stakeholders to translate needs into scalable AI solutions
• Contribute to decisions on architecture, model selection, and API design
• Ensure compliance with standards for security, privacy, and responsible AI
• Mentor and guide engineers to enhance team capabilities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
• Significant experience delivering production AI/ML systems, including model deployment and operationalization
• Strong proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or Rust
• Experience with AI/ML frameworks, LLM technologies, and data pipelines
• Knowledge of model lifecycle management, MLOps, and production reliability practices
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across disciplines
