Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Service Engineer to undertake subcontract work across London and the surrounding areas.

This opportunity is suited to a competent, self-sufficient engineer looking for regular subcontract work, with the ability to manage their own workload and carry out servicing, fault diagnosis and repairs independently.

The work primarily involves commercial refrigeration and air conditioning, covering reactive breakdowns, servicing, maintenance and remedial repairs.

We place a strong emphasis on high-quality workmanship, professional conduct and ensuring all work is completed in accordance with relevant regulations, industry standards and manufacturer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend reactive breakdowns, servicing and maintenance visits.
• Independently diagnose and rectify refrigeration and air conditioning faults.
• Carry out electrical and mechanical fault-finding.
• Service and repair walk-in chillers and freezers, cellar coolers, standalone refrigeration units, blast chillers, ice machines and associated equipment.
• Diagnose, service and repair split and multi-split air conditioning systems.
• Undertake component replacements, refrigerant recovery, pressure testing, evacuation and commissioning where required.
• Complete accurate service reports detailing findings, works undertaken and recommendations.
• Maintain professional standards when attending customer premises.
• Work safely and in accordance with applicable regulations and manufacturer requirements.

Essential Requirements

• F-Gas Category 1 certification.
• Proven experience in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning.
• Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration systems and operating principles.
• Excellent independent fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Competence in electrical fault-finding and control systems.
• Ability to carry out repairs without requiring regular technical assistance.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Professional attitude and attention to detail.
• Commitment to safe working practices and high-quality workmanship.

Desirable Experience

Experience working with the following equipment would be advantageous:

• Commercial refrigeration systems.
• Walk-in cold rooms and freezers.
• Cellar cooling systems.
• Ice machines and blast chillers.
• Commercial split and multi-split air conditioning.
• VRV/VRF systems.
• Chillers and associated HVAC equipment.

Experience across every system listed is not essential. However, applicants must demonstrate a strong understanding of commercial refrigeration and be confident undertaking independent service and repair work.
