What they need

Air Quality Engineer / Project Manager (5-10 Years of Experience preferred)

$100K–$135K Base + Bonus | Hybrid | Texas

Location: Houston (Preferred) | Dallas | Austin | Other Texas Locations Considered

Love the technical side of Air Quality consulting but don't want to spend your career chasing new business?

What if you could take ownership of technically challenging projects, work with established industrial clients and progress your career without being expected to bring in new business?

I'm partnering with a well-established, privately held engineering and environmental consultancy that's expanding its Texas Air Quality practice following continued demand from existing midstream oil & gas and chemical clients.

This is a genuine growth opportunity within an established, collaborative team that already has a strong pipeline of secured work.

They're not looking for someone to bring a book of business. They need a technically strong Air Quality professional who enjoys solving problems, delivering projects and making an impact.

And importantly, you won't be forced down a management or business development route to progress your career.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

Career progression without the pressure to sell

Want to become a recognized technical expert? Great. Interested in project management, mentoring junior engineers or developing client relationships? Those opportunities are available too.

Your career progression can be shaped around your strengths and interests rather than a one size fits all leadership track.

Established clients and a strong project pipeline

The team has significant ongoing work across midstream O&G and chemical manufacturing sectors.

You'll be joining to help deliver existing projects, not to spend your time cold calling or developing a client portfolio from scratch.

Real technical ownership

You'll have the opportunity to independently manage air permitting and compliance projects, solve complex technical challenges and make meaningful contributions to client operations.

A collaborative team that invests in its people

Work alongside experienced Air Quality professionals who genuinely value technical expertise, mentorship and knowledge-sharing.

You'll have the autonomy to own your projects while being supported by an established team.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $100K–$135K base salary , depending on experience.
  • Annual performance bonus , typically 2–8%.
  • Excellent 401(k): 100% employer match on the first 4% contributed, plus an additional 3% employer contribution. Both immediately vested.
  • 2–4 weeks of PTO , depending on experience.
  • 9 paid holidays , including 3 floating holidays.
  • Unlimited sick leave.
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance.
  • Hybrid working arrangements across Texas offices.
  • Genuine career development with multiple technical and leadership progression pathways.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll take ownership of air quality permitting and compliance projects for established industrial clients, with a particular focus on midstream oil & gas and chemical operations.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Independently preparing and managing Permit by Rule (PBR) and minor New Source Review (NSR) permit applications, including new permits and renewals.
  • Performing emissions calculations, preparing emissions inventories and developing compliance tracking tools.
  • Supporting rolling 12-month emissions tracking, regulatory reporting and ongoing air compliance requirements.
  • Evaluating industrial processes and equipment to develop practical permitting and compliance strategies.
  • Managing multiple projects and coordinating with clients, technical teams and regulatory agencies.
  • Providing technical guidance to junior professionals where appropriate.
  • Potentially expanding into Title V, PSD, BACT, project management or broader client leadership responsibilities depending on your experience and interests.

What We're Looking For

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • 5-10 years of Air Quality permitting and compliance experience , ideally in consulting or an industrial environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Texas air regulations and TCEQ permitting requirements .
  • Hands-on experience with PBRs, minor NSR permitting and emissions calculations .
  • The ability to independently deliver permitting projects from start to finish.
  • A good understanding of industrial processes, equipment and associated emissions.
  • A degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science or a related discipline. An engineering background is particularly attractive.

Experience with midstream O&G, chemical manufacturing, emissions inventory workbooks, Title V or PSD permitting would be advantageous.

You don't need an existing client portfolio, extensive business development experience or a formal Project Manager title.

If you're technically capable, enjoy taking ownership of projects and want to continue developing, we'd be interested in speaking with you.

Location & Flexibility

Houston is the preferred location, although Dallas, Austin and other Texas offices may be considered for the right individual.

The company offers hybrid working arrangements, with office attendance and occasional client-site visits depending on location and project requirements.

Interested in Hearing More?

You don't need to be actively looking to have a conversation.

If you're an experienced Air Quality professional who enjoys the technical work but wants stronger career opportunities, a supportive team and the freedom to develop in a direction that suits you, this could be worth exploring.

Apply directly or contact Thomas Rolfe for a confidential, no-obligation conversation.

All enquiries will be handled in complete confidence.

Other offers great for you!
