The Airfield Security Guard will report to the Airport Security Chief and the Assistant Airport Manager

Job Overview

The Airport Security Guard provide ongoing surveillance of airport facility, buildings, and the surrounding grounds. Airport security guards alert for suspicious activity or conditions that could endanger people or property at the airport. Airport security guards patrol airport facilities on foot, in security vehicle and through security cameras. Security Guards monitor pavement conditions, aircraft movements, and wildlife hazards. In addition, Security may be called upon to perform various maintenance activities such as vehicle and office cleaning, garbage detail, and grounds keeping.

Responsibilities and Duties

· Assist in the safety, security, and financial self-sufficiency of the airport.

· Answer and direct, phone calls and messages promptly, clearly and professionally.

· Use a variety of radio equipment to communicates with the ATC, pilots, law enforcement, fire department, and other governmental representatives.

· Radio procedures require the clear use of the English language; knowledge and use of the phonetic alphabet; Zulu time conversions; radio frequencies, and general Airport required vocabulary (hold short, ELT, ILS, etc)

· Patrol and inspect the airport property to ensure safety and security of the tenants, buildings, acquired surrounding properties, perimeter fencing and gates, and the AOA (Aircraft Operational Area) (crime prevention and detection).

· Monitor the CTAF after ATC closes for the day.

· Participate in wildlife hazard management and deterrence activities and reporting

· Implement the response procedures for medical, fire, police response, or other emergency; complete all related reports.

· Facilitate access to the airfield for emergency response teams

· Follow Customs garbage disposal (regulated waste) per Customs and Border Protection procedures in an efficient and professional manner.

· Assist with snow removal schedule to assure our tenants and transients safe arrival/departure.

· Enforce Port District ordinances and regulations

· Generate accident and injury reports

· Maintain required documentation, activity logs, and incidence reports, and monthly operations reports.

· Act as a point of contact for internal and external clients for the Airport.

· Thorough knowledge of the airfield procedures, practices, rules, and regulations.

· Monitor runway/taxiway conditions during foul weather.

· Airport condition reporting to ATCT and TRACON.

· Issue/Modify/Cancel NOTAMs

· Ensure tenants, customers and guests comply with Airport movement and non-movement area. (vehicle & pedestrian)

· Maintain the security of information related to tenants, customers, and personnel.

· Maintain the cleanliness, fuel level, and general maintenance of the security vehicle(s)

· Daily maintenance of the office areas, including: dusting, vacuuming, window cleaning, mopping, and garbage disposal.

· Assist with other project as deemed necessary by the Deputy Director or his designee

· Assist with grounds keeping and facility maintenance and cleanliness

· Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, ethics, and integrity in all the airport operations.

Desired Qualifications

· Highschool graduate or GED with about 3 years of experience.

· Experience and knowledge with airfield procedures, practices, rules, and regulations (training provided)

· Ability to work both independently and in a team.

· Attention to detail, problem solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Must have excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and maintain both confidentiality and open lines of communications.

· A good standard of computer literacy and ability to learn new software skills.

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, often with interruptions.

· A valid driving license.

· Airport experience and technical school training related to airfield maintenance or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Required Skills

· Ability to hear, speak, walk, stoop, climb ladders, bend, stretch, push, pull, and lift maximum 60 pounds, understanding and utilizing proper safety equipment and body mechanics.

· Ability to withstand wind, rain, cold, snow, ice, dirt, dust, mud, heat, noise, and other environmental factors.

· Ability to use and comprehend standard airport phraseology and operate a two-way radio. (training provided)

· Ability to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays during snow and ice removal operations and as other circumstances dictate.

· Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to conform to goals, policies, and procedures of the airport.

· Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with co-workers, tenants and the general public.

· Ability to effectively communicate English and understand and follow written and oral instructions.

· Ability to effectively communicate in writing.

· Ability to learn and apply Federal Aviation Regulations.

Hours: Part-time, Saturday & Sunday, 3rd shift - 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
