AIX and WebSphere Senior Engineer

Job Purpose:

Responsible for the administration, optimization, and support of IBM AIX operating systems and IBM WebSphere Application Server environments. also provides advanced technical expertise, troubleshoots complex issues, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support enterprise IT operations and application deployments.

Key Accountabilities:

1. System Administration : supervise and maintaining AIX servers and WebSphere environments, ensuring ,high availability and performance.
2. Platform Optimization : prepare and analyze configuration/performance report and contribute in Tuning AIX and WebSphere configurations to optimize resource utilization and application efficiency.
3. Installation and Configuration : Deploy, upgrade, and configure AIX operating systems and WebSphere Application Server instances.
4. Troubleshooting : Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to AIX, WebSphere, and hosted applications.
5. Security Management : Implement security patches, hardening measures, and compliance standards for AIX and WebSphere platforms.
6. Capacity Planning : Monitor system performance and plan for scalability to meet current and future demands.
7. Collaboration : Work with application developers, network engineers, and other IT teams to support deployments and integrations.
8. Disaster Recovery : Contribute in Developing and testing backup, recovery, and high-availability strategies for AIX and WebSphere environments.
9. Documentation : contribute and prepare detailed technical documentation, including system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

Education : Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications are a plus.

Experience :

• 3-5 years of experience in system administration.
• Hands-on experience managing enterprise-scale AIX servers and WebSphere Application Server deployments.

Technical Skills :

• Expertise in IBM AIX administration (e.g., LPARs, VIO, HMC, patching, scripting).
• Proficiency with IBM WebSphere Application Server (e.g., installation, clustering, performance tuning).
• Strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux command-line tools and shell scripting (e.g., KornShell, Bash).
• Familiarity with middleware components (e.g., IBM HTTP Server, MQ, JDBC).
• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Tivoli, Splunk) and backup solutions (e.g., IBM TSM).
• Understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, SSL) and security practices.

• Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Certifications (Preferred): IBM Certified System Administrator (AIX), IBM Certified WebSphere Administrator, ITIL Foundation, RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer).
