About The Library
The Library Restaurant & Pub is a locally established Indianapolis restaurant offering an upscale-casual dining experience in a distinctive French château-style building with a rich local history. We are known for our unique atmosphere, quality food, and friendly, attentive service.
Our goal is to provide a welcoming and comfortable experience where guests feel well cared for from the moment they arrive. We are looking for team members who take pride in their work, treat others with respect, and understand that great hospitality is a team effort.
About the Position
The Library Restaurant & Pub is seeking a friendly, dependable, and organized AM Host to join our front-of-house team.
The Host is often the first and last person our guests interact with, making this an important role in creating a positive dining experience. In addition to welcoming and seating guests, the AM Host helps prepare the front of the restaurant for service, manages reservations and dining-room flow, answers phones, assists with carryout orders, and supports the front-of-house team throughout the lunch shift.
This is an active, hands-on position. The AM Host helps ensure the entrance, host area, and dining room are clean, organized, and ready for guests and assists with other front-of-house responsibilities as business needs require.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, communicates professionally, stays organized, notices what needs to be done, and is willing to help the team.
Responsibilities
- Help prepare the entrance, host stand, dining room, and applicable guest areas for opening and lunch service.
- Warmly greet guests and create a positive first impression.
- Seat guests appropriately and maintain an organized seating rotation.
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, wait times, and dining-room flow.
- Answer phones professionally and assist with reservations, guest questions, and carryout orders.
- Maintain awareness of available tables and communicate with servers and managers about seating needs.
- Assist guests entering and leaving the restaurant as appropriate.
- Help keep the entrance, host stand, and surrounding guest areas clean, organized, and guest-ready throughout the shift.
- Assist with clearing, cleaning, and resetting tables when needed.
- Assist with food running and other front-of-house needs during busy periods as directed.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with servers, kitchen staff, and managers.
- Step in to help teammates when needed and when primary host responsibilities are under control.
- Complete assigned opening, sidework, and end-of-shift responsibilities.
- Handle routine guest questions and concerns professionally and involve a manager when appropriate.
What We're Looking For
The right candidate will demonstrate:
- Hospitality: Friendly, welcoming, and professional with guests.
- Reliability: Arrives on time, prepared, and ready to work.
- Initiative: Notices what needs attention and takes appropriate action.
- Teamwork: Willing to help coworkers and contribute to the overall success of the restaurant.
- Communication: Communicates clearly and respectfully with guests and teammates.
- Organization: Able to manage reservations, seating, phone calls, and other responsibilities during service.
- Attention to Detail: Notices cleanliness, organization, table readiness, and other details that affect the guest experience.
- Composure: Remains professional and focused when multiple guests or responsibilities require attention at the same time.
- Coachability: Accepts feedback and is willing to learn.
Previous restaurant, hospitality, host, or customer-service experience is helpful, but not required for the right candidate.
What You Can Expect From Us
