Overview of the position:

The Unit-Ward Clerk role is in charge of supporting the Director of Nursing and Unit Managers by monitoring the completion of records as well as nursing station organization.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate resident admissions, complete admission checklists, and conduct facility tours for prospective residents.
• Maintain, organize, and update resident medical records in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
• File incoming clinical documents daily and ensure telephone orders are transcribed and signed by physicians or other healthcare professionals.
• Monitor physician visit schedules and follow up on outstanding orders and documentation.
• Prepare and organize paperwork for resident transfers, referrals, and discharges.
• Conduct resident record audits and photocopy documents as needed.
• Coordinate communication between Nursing and other departments while maintaining the confidentiality and security of resident health information.
• Follow facility safety guidelines and emergency procedures, and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for the position:

• Minimum Entry Level
• General office skills including filing, organizing, and tracking
• Oral and written communication skills
• Good customer service and telephone skills/etiquette. Tact and warmth when dealing with family and residents
• Ability to work within a team
• Empathy for the elderly
• Ability to work systematically and without continuous supervision
