Ammonia Refrigeration Technician

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Ammonia Refrigeration Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment.

This position is responsible for keeping refrigeration systems operating safely, efficiently, and reliably while supporting facility production and maintenance needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on refrigeration equipment.
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on building infrastructure.
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on material handling equipment.
• Monitor system pressures, temperatures, levels, and overall operating conditions.
• Troubleshoot compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, controls, and associated equipment.
• Respond to refrigeration system alarms, breakdowns, and emergency situations.
• Conduct routine inspections and identify potential safety or equipment issues.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and documentation.
• Follow all company safety procedures and applicable OSHA, EPA, PSM/RMP, and environmental requirements.
• Participate in safety training, inspections, and refrigeration system audits.
• Work closely with operations, engineering, and management teams to minimize downtime.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• 2 years of previous experience working with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems required.
• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration system components, controls, and operating principles.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
• Basic electrical instrumentation experience.
• Experience with preventative maintenance programs is preferred.
• Ability to work independently and respond effectively to emergency situations.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety.
• Ability to work in cold environments, as low as -20° F, and perform physically demanding tasks. Freezer gear will be provided.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
• Comfortable working at heights above 30 ft.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• RETA certification or equivalent ammonia refrigeration training is a plus.
• Proficient computer skills
• Ability to read and write English

Pay: $28.03 - $39.78 per hour
