What they need

About the Company

Smith System exists to reduce collisions, protect drivers, and save lives. Crashes aren't accidents - they're predictable and preventable. For nearly 75 years, Smith System has helped organizations build safer drivers through proven behavior-based training and modern driver risk management solutions.

Our technology and analytics teams turn complex fleet, telematics, and operational data into trusted insights that help customers make better decisions and improve real-world safety outcomes.

About the Role

Analysts deliver Smith System products and services to our customers by ingesting, preparing, analyzing, and visualizing data to solve real business problems. They work directly with customers to understand objectives, priorities, and timelines; ensure solutions align with business needs; educate customers on product use and industry best practices; and provide responsive support when data or analysis questions arise.

  • As a Analyst III, you will be an experienced individual contributor capable of executing an entire core workflow with minimal oversight. A core workflow is the group of tasks required to deliver one of our core analytics products or services, such as data modeling, BI dashboards, or professional services. You will also gather customer requirements, execute customer-specific projects with support as needed, mentor Analyst I and II team members on routine work, and continue developing subject-matter expertise.
  • As an Analyst III, you'll be an experienced individual contributor capable of executing an entire core workflow with minimal oversight. A core workflow is the group of tasks required to deliver one of our core analytics products or services, such as Safety, DVIR Compliance, Fuel Fraud, Electric Vehicle Utilization, etc. You'll gather customer requirements, execute customer-specific projects with support as needed, mentor Analyst I and II team members on routine work, and continue developing subject-matter expertise.
  • An Analyst II typically executes assigned pieces of a client engagement under the guidance of someone more senior. An Analyst III owns the full workflow with minimal oversight — from requirements gathering through dashboard delivery and the data model underneath it — for their assigned clients, serving as that client's day-to-day point of contact and mentoring Analyst I and II team members on routine work.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and execute an entire core analytics workflow with minimal oversight, from data intake and preparation through analysis, visualization, delivery, and customer follow-up.
  • Ingest, transform, validate, and analyze customer data to identify patterns, answer business questions, and produce trusted insights.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and other analytical deliverables that align with customer requirements and business objectives.
  • Communicate directly with customers to understand objectives, priorities, requirements, and timelines, with support on more complex requirement-gathering conversations as needed.
  • Present analytical findings and dashboards to customers, explain the story behind the data, and educate users on product functionality, industry best practices, and domain-specific concepts.
  • Execute customer-specific analytical projects with oversight, balancing customer needs, technical feasibility, quality, and timelines.
  • Keep customers informed on project progress and respond to data, reporting, or analysis-related questions and issues quickly and effectively.
  • Use project management and software development tools to collaborate with analysts, data engineers, data scientists, and other teammates in the creation, modification, and review of analytical work.
  • Mentor Analyst I and Analyst II team members on routine workflows, tools, and analytical practices.
  • Build deeper subject-matter expertise in fleet operations, driver risk, benchmarking, telematics, and/or other relevant areas of the business.
  • Preferred consideration will be given if you have experience in the fleet space
  • Act as a trusted advisor to your customers — helping them understand not just what the data shows, but how to act on it to improve their KPIs.
  • Use AI tools like Claude to work more efficiently and help solve customer problems.
  • Build and maintain the data models (dbt & semantic layer) that power your dashboards and analytical deliverables, working with high-volume telematics/FMIS data.

What You Bring

  • 2-4 years of relevant professional experience as an Analyst
  • Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Science, or another analytical field
  • Strong SQL skills and experience preparing, validating, analyzing, and troubleshooting complex datasets.
  • Experience using Python, R, or another programming language for data analysis and problem solving.
  • Experience developing dashboards and visualizations in a modern BI platform.
  • Experience using BI tools such as Omni, Looker, DBT, GitLab, Tableau, Power BI
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage well-defined analytical work while knowing when to escalate questions or seek support.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, including the ability to gather requirements, explain analytical concepts clearly, present findings, and manage expectations.
  • Ability to identify coherent patterns in complex or imperfect datasets and investigate why results or outliers may not look as expected.
  • Ability to manage multiple customer priorities and projects while maintaining strong follow-through and attention to detail.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to develop deeper domain and subject-matter expertise.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with analysts, engineers, data scientists, Customer Experience, and other cross-functional partners.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with fleet, telematics, logistics, transportation, IoT, or other operational data — alternatively, genuine enthusiasm for building this domain expertise quickly
  • Experience supporting analytics products or customer-facing data solutions in a B2B environment.
  • Experience mentoring or informally coaching more junior analysts.
  • Experience with dbt and/or GitLab, or similar version-controlled data modeling workflows
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude) to solve business problems

What Success Looks Like

  • Core analytics workflows are delivered accurately, on time, and with minimal oversight.
  • Customers receive clear, trusted analysis and understand how to use the resulting insights to make better decisions.
  • Requirements, priorities, and timelines are understood and communicated effectively, with issues surfaced early rather than late.
  • Customer-specific projects are executed with strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and appropriate collaboration.
  • Analyst I and II teammates benefit from practical mentoring and knowledge sharing on routine work.
  • Technical, customer, and domain expertise continue to deepen, allowing the analyst to take on increasingly complex work.

Why Join Smith System

  • Direct impact on driver safety and fleet performance through analytics that help customers make smarter, data-informed decisions.
  • Opportunity to work directly with customers while partnering with experienced analytics, engineering, data science, and Customer Experience professionals.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven environment focused on solving complex real-world problems with data.

Pay Range and Compensation Package

The anticipated base salary range is $80,000-$90,000 annually, plus bonus eligibility. Final compensation will be based on relevant experience, skills, and internal equity.
