Analytical Chemist

Our client, a well-established commercial testing lab with over 50 years in food, life science and environmental testing, is looking for an experienced Analytical Chemist to join their growing team. This will be a great opportunity for someone looking to grow technical expertise within a commercial lab environment, with scope to develop into a technical subject matter expert (SME) for food chemistry methods and instrumentation as experience builds.

The role

• Prepare and analyse food and related samples using GC, GC/MS, HPLC/LC and LC/MS
• Operate, calibrate and troubleshoot specialist chromatography instrumentation
• Evaluate analytical data, investigate unexpected or out-of-spec results, and keep LIMS records accurate
• Support method verification, validation and continuous improvement work
• Build toward a technical SME role, advising and training other analysts as your expertise grows

What you’ll bring:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, Food Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
• Minimum 2 years’ hands-on laboratory experience in a commercial, industrial, food testing, manufacturing or environmental setting (academic lab experience alone does not satisfy this requirement)
• Hands-on experience operating and/or analysing data from GC, GC/MS, HPLC/LC and/or LC/MS
• Ability to accurately interpret analytical data and recognise potential analytical or instrumentation issues
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity
