What they need

Remote (US) · Part-time (W-2 or 1099), potential for full-time (with benefits) · $30.00–$35.00 per hour · active CPC or CANPC required · outpatient anesthesia experience

AmbuSun is an AI revenue cycle management (RCM) services startup. We handle billing end to end for ambulatory surgery centers, physician practices, and the anesthesia providers who work alongside them, from charge capture through denials and AR follow-up. Our billers work encounters using software our own engineers build alongside them.

Why this role exists

Coding is where you'll spend most of your time and where your judgment matters most. When a claim needs reworking, an aging account needs chasing, or a payer needs calling, you jump in. This is not a queue-grinder seat.

Anesthesia billing is its own discipline. Claims are built from base units plus time, split across care teams under medical direction and concurrency rules that general coders rarely see. We want one person who knows this world well.

The other half of the job is the engineering team. You'll work directly with the people building our internal billing tools: using them daily, telling them what's slow or wrong, and helping decide what gets built next. We want a thought partner who iterates with them often, not someone who files a ticket and waits.

What you'll do

For customers

  • Code anesthesia encounters: CPT anesthesia codes, base plus time units, physical status modifiers, and qualifying circumstances, so claims go out clean the first time
  • Apply medical direction and concurrency modifiers (AA, QK, QY, QX, QZ, QS) correctly for anesthesiologist and CRNA care teams
  • Own the billing cycle for assigned anesthesia accounts: charge capture, claims submission, eligibility checks, and payment posting
  • Work AR follow-up and prioritize aging accounts by dollars and deadlines, including timely filing limits
  • Investigate the root cause of denials (time-unit disputes, medical direction documentation, medical necessity), correct and rework claims, and file appeals that stick
  • Call payers and work portals to resolve follow-ups and appeals

With engineering

  • Test the internal tools as you use them and report what breaks or slows you down
  • Sit with the engineers on what to build next, and iterate with them as it ships

What we're looking for

Must have:

  • An active CPC and / or CANPC certification
  • Working command of anesthesia coding: base plus time units, physical status modifiers, and medical direction / concurrency rules
  • Hands-on anesthesia billing experience: claims submission, payment posting, denials, and AR follow-up for an anesthesia group or a practice with anesthesia providers
  • Authorized to work and actively living in the US

Preferred:

  • Experience billing anesthesia for ambulatory surgery centers or office-based surgery
  • Clearinghouse experience: Waystar, or clearinghouse work inside an all-in-one PM like athena
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks, athena, NextGen, SIS, HST, Tebra, or an anesthesia-specific billing platform
  • 3+ years of anesthesia coding and billing (strong fit offsets fewer years)

Pay

  • $30.00–$35.00 per hour, with the possibility for more for exceptional candidates
  • Part-time (W-2): hours agreed with you, schedule built around payer business hours. This posting is part-time only for now, with a path to full-time (medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus PTO) if the workload grows
  • Remote anywhere in the US; you'll need a quiet workspace and reliable internet

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule

Experience:

  • outpatient anesthesia: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:

  • CPC or CANPC (Required)

Location:

  • United States (Required)
