Animal Control Officer

Job Overview

The Town of Miami is seeking a Part-Time Animal Control Officer to work under the direction of the Public Works Director. The Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcing applicable Town animal control ordinances and regulations and promoting the health, safety and welfare of the community.

Responsibilities

• Responds to complaints and calls involving stray, lost, injured, dangerous, or nuisance animals.
• Captures, restrains, transports, and safely handles animals in accordance with established procedures.
• Enforces Town animal control ordinances and applicable laws and regulations.
• Investigates animal-related emergencies and provides emergency/after-hours response as assigned.
• Assists with the impoundment and care of animals and coordinates with appropriate animal shelters, veterinarians and other agencies as needed.
• Maintains accurate records of animal complaint, impoundments, citations, and other animal control activities.
• Communicates professionally and courteously with members of the public regarding animal control concerns and requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Arizona Driver's License.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be able to safely handle and restrain animal of various sizes and temperaments.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and deal appropriately with difficult or potentially confrontational situations.
