Animal Control Officer

The City of Hickman is taking applications for the position of PART TIME ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER (ACO). The ACO works under the City Manager’s direction and closely with local law enforcement. The position requires a compassionate person who cares about the proper treatment of animals, particularly dogs, in a variety of conditions. The ACO aids law enforcement in the capture of stray, loose, and sometimes vicious dogs. The ACO is responsible for the proper care of impounded dogs and makes efforts to rehome adoptable stray dogs within a reasonable time after capture. The ACO understands the limitations in caring for dogs and that he or she may have to aid in humanely euthanizing dogs that cannot be rehomed. Pay is commensurate with experience. Applicants understand that ACO is a position with odd hours and work mostly performed outdoors in various weather conditions. Applicants must be physically fit to handle large dogs, able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted, have a valid drivers’ license, and not be convicted of a felony. Applicants are subject to random drug screening under the city’s Drug Free Workplace Policy through the Kentucky League of Cities. Interested applicants may pick up an application at Hickman City Hall, 1812 S 7th St, during business hours. Deadline for submitting applications is MONDAY, NOVEMBER at 4PM. The City of Hickman is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
