Animal Laboratory Technician

We are seeking an Animal Husbandry & Laboratory Technician to join our USDA-registered sheep farm and laboratory in Benson, VT. This role supports both animal care and laboratory production activities related to the production of polyclonal antibodies.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily feeding, watering, bedding, and general care of sheep.
• Perform routine animal treatments and assist with animal health and welfare activities.
• Handle, sort, herd, and transfer sheep between areas/sites.
• Support breeding, lambing, and animal production activities.
• Assist with antisera production, antigen administration, test bleeding, and blood collection by plasmapheresis.
• Complete required records and documentation accurately.
• Maintain animal housing and production areas according to USDA and company standards.
• Follow IACUC, animal welfare, safety, PPE, and biological/zoonotic hygiene requirements.
• Work independently and as part of a team in a farm and laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with livestock, farm animals, veterinary settings, or laboratory environments preferred.
• Comfortable handling large animals, particularly sheep.
• Valid driver's license.
• Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and computer skills.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and adapt to changing animal-care needs.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical farm duties, including bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and walking on uneven/wet surfaces.
• Must be willing to work weekends.

Prior experience with sheep, animal husbandry, veterinary work, or laboratory procedures is a plus

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
