Apartment Make-Ready Technician

Star Companies is hiring for our Star Property Management team, serving apartment communities across the Kansas City metro. We’re looking for an experienced make-ready technician who takes pride in quality work and can prepare vacant apartments, duplexes, and townhomes for new residents.

You’ll handle a variety of residential repairs, including plumbing, appliances, carpentry, drywall, and painting. From reviewing the assigned scope to completing the final punch list, you’ll take ownership of each turn and deliver a clean, functional home by the agreed deadline. We value reliable attendance, sound judgment, and early communication when something could delay completion.

Responsibilities:

• Complete assigned unit turns from start to finish using written scopes of work.
• Repair or replace faucets, toilets, drains, disposals, supply lines, shutoffs, and other common plumbing fixtures.
• Complete minor electrical repairs and fixture replacements within your qualifications and authorized scope.
• Troubleshoot, install, or replace common residential appliances.
• Repair doors, locks, cabinets, trim, shelving, blinds, and other interior components.
• Complete drywall repairs, surface preparation, painting, and touch-ups as needed.
• Inspect your completed work and resolve punch-list items before the unit is released as ready.
• Record progress, materials, and outstanding issues; communicate delays and support needs promptly.
• Keep units, tools, and work areas clean, organized, and secure.
• Coordinate with other technicians or approved vendors when specialized work is needed.
• Assist with other property maintenance assignments as operational needs require.

Experience and Requirements

• Hands-on experience completing apartment turns or comparable residential repair projects.
• Practical knowledge of plumbing, minor electrical repairs, appliances, carpentry, drywall, and painting.
• Ability to follow a written scope, plan materials, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
• Reliable attendance, attention to detail, and clear communication.
• A valid driver’s license, safe driving record, reliable transportation, and eligibility for coverage under the company’s vehicle insurance policy.
• Basic personal hand tools and the ability to use them safely.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Three or more years of relevant make-ready, apartment maintenance, remodeling, or construction experience is preferred. A high school diploma or GED is preferred

Schedule and physical requirements

Full-time, eight-hour day shifts, Monday–Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work as needed. Work takes place at properties across the Kansas City metro.

The position requires lifting and moving up to 75 pounds, prolonged standing and walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing ladders, accessing restricted spaces, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
