OT Applications Analyst – MES & SCADA

POSITION SUMMARY

The OT Applications Analyst for MES & SCADA is a hands-on, IT-focused role responsible for

configuring, supporting, and enhancing MES and SCADA applications within STERIS manufacturing

environments. This role works directly within MES and SCADA platforms (such as Ignition and

Sepasoft), maintaining and extending vendor-delivered solutions while ensuring alignment with

STERIS IT-OT standards, cybersecurity requirements, and Industry 4.0 objectives.

The role is execution-oriented and requires deep technical involvement in MES/SCADA modules,

scripting, and data. It is designed as a feeder role in OT Solutions Architect, building strong

application, integration, and architectural understanding over time.

This position also requires staying abreast with changes in technology. Participation in team and / orproject meetings, to schedule work and discuss status, will be required.

DUTIES

1. Configure, maintain, and enhance MES and SCADA applications from an IT perspective.

2. Work hands-on within SCADA projects, including Designer and Gateway configurations.

3. Configure and support MES modules such as Production, Quality, Track & Trace, and OEE.

4. Modify MES equipment models, production models, workflows, and configurations.

5. Write, modify, and debug Python (Python) scripts used for MES and SCADA logic.

6. Develop and troubleshoot SQL queries supporting MES transactions, genealogy, reporting,

and audits.

7. Provide L2/L3 technical support for MES and SCADA applications in manufacturing

environments.

8. Analyze and resolve issues related to application behavior, data flow, and system

performance.

9. Validate and troubleshoot data consumed from vendors via OPC UA, MQTT, or other

interfaces.

10. Work directly on MES/SCADA modules even when data ingestion is delivered by vendors.

11. Support testing activities including integration testing, UAT, and production readiness.

12. Apply STERIS-defined IT-OT standards, URS, and cybersecurity controls in day-to-day work.

13. Maintain technical documentation related to configurations, changes, and support

procedures.

14. Collaborate with OT Automation teams, IT infrastructure teams, and vendors during

implementations and changes.

15. Identify recurring issues and recommend technical improvements to increase stability and

performance.

SPECIFIC WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

1. 5+ years of hands-on experience working with MES and/or SCADA applications.

2. Strong practical experience with Ignition (configuration, projects, gateway, troubleshooting).

3. Ignition and Sepasoft implementation/support experience preferred.

4. Hands-on experience configuring and supporting MES modules (Sepasoft is an advantage).

5. Strong Python (Python) scripting skills, including writing and debugging scripts.

6. Strong SQL skills, including working with MES schemas, transactions, and audit data.

7. Experience working directly within MES/SCADA applications, not just coordinating vendors.

8. Understanding of IT-side ownership of OT systems, including servers, databases, and

integrations.

9. Experience supporting or validating data ingestion using OPC UA, MQTT, or similar industrial

protocols.

10. Ability to troubleshoot application, data, and integration issues across IT-OT environments.

11. Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments.

12. Familiarity with regulated environments (medical devices, pharma, life sciences) preferred.

13. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.

14. Outstanding verbal, written and visual presentation skills.

15. Analytical problem-solving mindset.

16. Ability to work semi-independently with frequent manager guidance and mentoring.

17. Ability and willingness to work effectively on a team.
