What they need
About the role
With our first commercial product ready for market launch, we're looking for an energetic and skilled Application & Sales Engineer to help drive its success. You will enable and support distributors, OEMs, System Integrators and installers to independently design, sell, and configure HikoTerra solutions, while providing end-to-end technical support across the sales lifecycle.
About HikoTerra
HikoTerra was founded by Chris Fotherby, a highly accomplished engineer and former CTO of Navman, who recognised a gap in onboard power systems through first-hand experience. Driven by the challenge, he began developing a novel solution that evolved as he explored new ways to deliver reliable onboard power where existing systems fell short.
Today, that vision is set to enter the market at a pivotal moment. Boaters and mobile adventurers now expect seamless, high-quality onboard power - and enabling technologies, from advanced batteries to smart energy controls, have finally caught up. After years of refinement, HikoTerra is poised to launch as customer expectations and technical possibilities align.
The company is now set for a phase of rapid expansion, introducing its innovative, world-class technology to the market with the support of experienced founders, investors and leaders with a history of success.
As HikoTerra grows, we are looking for talented, like minded people to join us as we accelerate our mission, and as a small growing team we need people that can roll up their sleeves to get the job done. We don’t believe in saying: 'That’s not my job'.
What you will bring
- 8–10 years' experience in technical sales, systems engineering, electrical engineering or application support within the energy, solar, marine, or automotive sectors
- New Zealand based with the ability to travel regularly within APAC, and occasionally the US and Europe
- Hands-on expertise with AC & DC power electronics solutions, including inverters, chargers, lithium-ion battery installations, battery management systems (BMS), digital switching and monitoring platforms
- Experience with marine power generation systems, including diesel generator sets (gensets), parallel operation, load sharing, and shore power integration
- Expertise in NMEA 2000 networks and marine system integration, including configuration, diagnostics, and interoperability across device
- Proficient in electrical design and schematic software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Visio), with the ability to develop and interpret system diagrams and layouts
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly translate technical concepts into commercial value
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively, and collaborate with distributed or remote teams
- Confidence delivering technical workshops, demonstrations, and practical sessions
- Ideally you possess a nationally recognized electrical registration or qualification with a current practising licence
Key responsibilities
- Enable and support distributors, OEMs, system integrators and installers to independently design, sell, and configure HikoTerra solutions
- Deliver structured, on-site product and system training to build partner capability, confidence, and technical expertise
- Partner with the Sales Director and distribution network to identify, pursue, and develop new business opportunities
- Provide end-to-end technical support across the sales lifecycle, including system design, simulations, configuration validation, and integration guidance
- Support marketing initiatives and training events to promote and demonstrate HikoTerra
- Play a key role in the development of training documentation
- Assist with the development and deployment of technical documentation and product manuals, particularly in the early stages
- Help with product support and troubleshooting
- And finally, this is a start-up, so you’ll also be expected to roll up your sleeves and help with whatever is required
Office First
HikoTerra has an office-first policy. In-person interactions drive growth, learning, impact, and the formation of genuine, long-lasting relationships. Strong relationships make it easier to collaborate, exchange feedback, and align on meaningful work. While we avoid excessive rules and policies, we rely on trust and strong connections to create an environment where people can do their best work.
That said, we’re office-first, not office-only. Our default is working together in person every day, but we flex when needed. We operate in a high-trust culture, where everyone is empowered to make the best decisions for the team.
Our culture
We have ambitious goals and an exceptionally talented team. We work hard, enjoy what we do, listen to each other, collaborate, and communicate openly and honestly.
We’re committed to fostering an environment where you can thrive and be your best self.
