About the role

Our client, a large public-sector organisation in Brussels, is looking for a Senior Application Cloud Architect to support its corporate solutions. The role centres on architecture and interoperability across several connected information systems built around a shared semantic data model, alongside cloud design and migration of existing systems.

This is a strategic architecture position rather than a hands-on development role. The client is looking for a true architect who defines functional and non-functional requirements, applies design patterns, works directly with the business, produces strategy and architecture documents, and resolves architecture problems. A solid Java background is required, and semantic web experience is a strong advantage.

Key responsibilities

• Provide architectural guidance on system architecture and processes, with a focus on interoperability between connected platforms and a shared semantic data model
• Analyse compatibility and integration between different information systems, including data analysis and data modelling
• Prepare and maintain architecture designs, software architecture documents and technical documentation
• Define a strategy to improve the efficiency of IT operations for the project
• Coordinate and review current system processes and the implementation of the technical architecture
• Evaluate systems to identify discrepancies and vulnerabilities
• Create cloud architecture designs and blueprints, and review existing systems for migration to the cloud
• Design architecture components and building blocks using cloud services
• Act as the technical interface between project leaders and developers, and work closely with business analysts, users and the client
• Take part in workshops, technical working groups and progress meetings with internal and external stakeholders
• Support testing, deployment, evaluation and reporting where relevant

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, with at least 10 years of IT experience after graduation
• Strong background in software development with Java, now working at architect level
• Good knowledge of microservices and cloud architecture
• Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and COBIT, and experience with ArchiMate
• Practical experience in system vulnerability assessment
• Understanding of AI and machine learning integration, architecture governance and MLOps
• Able to deliver business and technical presentations to varied audiences
• Responds quickly and effectively to unexpected events

Nice to have

• Semantic web stack experience: RDF/OWL processing with Apache Jena, SPARQL, triple stores such as GraphDB or Apache Fuseki, and semantic reasoning engines
• Cloud and/or enterprise architecture certifications
• Previous experience with public-sector or institutional clients
