Application Database Administrator

About the role

As an Application Database Administrator, you are responsible for the administration, performance, availability, security and reliability of databases that support business applications. The role also is responsible to install, configure and administer the database application platforms. You will work closely with application support, development, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure database environments are optimized, secure, and aligned with application requirements. The Application DBA supports application deployments, troubleshooting, performance tuning, database changes, and business continuity initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Align technical administration with business stakeholders, vendors and project teams with regards on business objectives
• Create and implement backup, recovery, disaster recovery and business processes continuity strategies
• Perform day-to-day application and database support, maintenance, availability of business-critical systems
• Ensure compliance with data protection, governance and audit requirements. Support vulnerability remediation and security assessments
• Create comprehensive documentation, such as technical requirements, specifications, application requirements and communicate business needs to development teams and stakeholders
• Communicate between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring that all parties have a shared understanding of requirements and project progress
• Conduct system verifications and periodic testing for the quality output
• Ensure database follow change management procedures. Execute database changes, deployments, and migrations
• Implement database and application security controls and access management
• Analyze and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, views and indexes

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in Database Administration, Database Operation, Application Support, Systems Engineering, or any IT related
• Hands-on experience with database performance tuning, database troubleshooting and maintenance
• Strong experience or hands-on with enterprise database platforms such as Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, AWS or Amazon RDS
• Technical hands-on with monitoring tools, and any application performance management solutions or platforms
• Experience implementing and managing high availability and disaster recovery solutions
• Knowledgeable with application architecture, middleware technologies, APIs and integration platforms
• Hand-on experience with operating systems including Windows Server and Linux environments
• Involvement in DEV, UAT and PROD activities, working with business users to validate that the solution meets their needs and requirements
• Experience in supporting technical project managers and developers, assisting in application and database scope, objectives, and deliverables, and providing ongoing project support
