Application Developer

Position Summary

Varmoda is seeking a motivated Application Developer to support the development and enhancement of a modern inspection management platform within a public-sector technology environment. This role will play a key part in replacing a legacy system by converting existing inspection documents into interactive web-based forms, developing data collection workflows, and supporting PDF generation capabilities. The ideal candidate will have strong JavaScript, SQL, HTML, and CSS skills, along with a desire to contribute to the delivery of efficient, user-friendly business applications that improve operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Convert existing fillable PDF documents into interactive HTML-based forms for web-based data collection.
• Develop and maintain JavaScript functionality to capture, validate, and store user-entered data in SQL databases.
• Design and support form workflows that streamline inspection, compliance, and operational data collection processes.
• Utilize templating technologies to generate system-produced PDF documents from application data.
• Build, test, and maintain database queries, stored procedures, and related data access components.
• Collaborate with lead developers and project stakeholders to implement application enhancements and new features.
• Support integration between web forms, backend databases, document repositories, and reporting tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application defects, data issues, and user-reported problems.
• Participate in system testing, quality assurance activities, and application deployment efforts.
• Maintain technical documentation, development standards, and coding best practices.
• Assist with version control, code reviews, and software release management activities.
• Provide development support for ongoing project initiatives as directed by project leadership.
• Participate in weekly status meetings and collaborate with technical teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Required Qualifications

• Experience developing applications using JavaScript.
• Experience creating and maintaining SQL queries, database objects, and data-driven applications.
• Strong knowledge of HTML and CSS for responsive web form development.
• Understanding of application development lifecycle methodologies, testing, debugging, and deployment processes.
• Experience designing and developing user-facing web applications.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative development environment.
• Experience with data collection, form processing, and document generation solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python development.
• Familiarity with Docker containerization technologies.
• Experience using Jinja templates or similar document templating frameworks.
• Experience with Git and GitHub version control platforms.
• Experience supporting digital transformation, modernization, or application replacement initiatives.
• Exposure to SQL Server (T-SQL) environments.
• Experience working within government, regulatory, inspection, compliance, or public-sector environments.

Preferred Certifications

• JavaScript or Web Development certifications.
• SQL Database certifications.
• Git/GitHub certifications or related software development credentials.
• Relevant cloud, application development, or DevOps certifications.
