Applications Engineer – Custom Automation

Location: Westbrook, ME

Compensation: $100K–$120K+ DOE

Hire Type: Direct Hire

Travel: Up to 25% domestic/international, typically short trips

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to join an established custom automation manufacturer specializing in turnkey assembly systems and special-purpose automation for medical, defense, electronics, consumer, and industrial applications.

The Applications Engineer will develop automation concepts, project estimates, and technical proposals while partnering with Sales and customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop concepts and technical solutions for custom automation projects
• Create estimates, quotations, and technical descriptions
• Work directly with customers and support Sales throughout the quoting process
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, and engineering teams
• Evaluate automation requirements, equipment, robotics, and processes
• Manage multiple quoting opportunities simultaneously

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Applications Engineering experience preferred
• 10+ years of automation experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of custom automation and automated equipment
• Customer-facing experience with strong communication skills
• Experience with project estimating and automation concept development
• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background preferred
• Associate degree or equivalent technical experience
• Robotics, machine vision, assembly automation, or material handling experience is a plus

Must be located in Maine or willing to relocate to Maine.
