Application Engineer - Precision Machining / Machine Shop

Position Summary

The Application Engineer serves as the technical link between customers, sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams. This position is responsible for evaluating customer machining requirements, developing manufacturing solutions, selecting appropriate tooling and machining processes, preparing quotations, and supporting production to ensure successful project execution. The role requires strong knowledge of CNC machining, tooling, manufacturing processes, and cost estimation.

Key Responsibilities

 Review customer drawings, CAD models, specifications, and RFQs.

 Develop machining strategies for CNC milling, turning, grinding, and multi-axis machining applications.

 Select cutting tools, workholding fixtures, machine tools, and machining parameters.

 Prepare cost estimates, cycle time calculations, and manufacturing feasibility studies.

 Generate process sheets, setup instructions, and manufacturing documentation.

 Collaborate with customers to optimize part designs for manufacturability (DFM).

 Provide technical support to sales teams during customer visits and project discussions.

 Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and production-related issues.

 Coordinate prototype and new product introduction (NPI) activities.

 Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and cost reduction.

 Work with quality and production teams to ensure compliance with customer specifications.

 Assist with CNC programming reviews and process validation.

 Monitor project progress and provide technical updates to customers and management.

Required Qualifications

 Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

 3+ years of experience in CNC machining, machine shop operations, or manufacturing engineering.

 Strong understanding of:

o CNC Milling, VMC, HMC and Turning

o GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)

o Blueprint/Engineering Drawing Interpretation

o Cutting Tool Technologies

o Workholding and Fixture Design

o Lean Manufacturing Principles

 Proficiency in CAD/CAM software such as: o SolidWorks o AutoCAD o Mastercam o Fusion 360 o Siemens NX (preferred)

 Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing documentation.

 Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications

 Experience with aerospace, automotive, medical, oil & gas, or precision manufacturing industries.

 Knowledge of multi-axis machining and advanced CNC programming.

 Experience with quoting and cost estimation.

 Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or IATF 16949 quality systems.

 Project management experience is an advantage.
