Applications Manager, Energy Trading

About the Opportunity

Our client, a major player in energy trading, is seeking a hands-on Applications Manager to join its technology organization in Houston on a contract basis. You will work side by side with developers and business users to keep the applications behind trading, risk, and operations running well, many of them built on a Python-based stack. This is a role for someone who is comfortable getting into the details, not just managing from a distance.

Key Responsibilities

• Own a portfolio of business applications and stay close to the work, from enhancements and releases through to retirement
• Dig into code, logs, and workflows alongside developers to troubleshoot issues and move fixes forward
• Partner directly with traders, analysts, and operations teams to understand their needs and turn them into clear priorities
• Lead incident response and root cause analysis to keep critical systems available and performant
• Coordinate vendors and internal teams on delivery and SLAs, while keeping timelines, budgets, and risks on track

Qualifications

• 7+ years in IT, including 3+ years in an applications or delivery management role
• Hands-on technical background with Python-based applications and the surrounding development ecosystem
• Comfortable reviewing code, scripts, and data, and talking through technical tradeoffs with engineers
• Solid grasp of SDLC, Agile, and ITIL-aligned practices
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred

• Background in energy trading, commodities, or financial services
• Familiarity with ETRM/CTRM or risk platforms
• Exposure to cloud and data platforms
• PMP, ITIL, or Scrum certification

Work Arrangement

Hybrid, with on-site time at the client's Houston office. Candidates must be local to Houston or willing to relocate at their own expense, and authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
