About the Role

We are looking for an Application Support Engineer – COBOL Mainframe to help maintain the stability, reliability, and performance of critical business systems.

In this role, you will investigate and resolve application issues across mainframe environments, troubleshoot complex problems, analyze system logs and outputs, and work closely with cross-functional teams to minimize system disruptions. You will also contribute to knowledge sharing, system improvements, and proactive monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

Application Support & Troubleshooting

• Investigate, analyze, and resolve application issues across mainframe environments.
• Perform detailed troubleshooting to identify the root cause of system and application problems.
• Debug complex software issues and implement appropriate solutions.
• Analyze system logs, outputs, and batch processing results to identify potential issues.
• Monitor system health and proactively identify problems before they impact business operations.
• Support ongoing system stability, reliability, and performance.

Mainframe Operations & Performance

• Work extensively with COBOL Mainframe applications and environments.
• Support and troubleshoot batch processing activities.
• Analyze system behavior and recommend solutions to improve application performance and reliability.
• Apply system monitoring and performance tuning techniques where appropriate.
• Work with database and mainframe components as needed to resolve application issues.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve production and system issues.
• Actively participate in team discussions and contribute technical insights and solutions.
• Document troubleshooting findings, root causes, and resolutions for knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and provide solutions to work-related technical challenges.
• Develop expertise in assigned systems and serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Qualifications

• Proven experience in COBOL Mainframe development, application support, or troubleshooting.

• Expert proficiency in COBOL Mainframe is required.

• Strong understanding of mainframe environments and batch processing.

• Experience debugging and troubleshooting complex software issues.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to analyze system logs, outputs, and error messages to determine root causes.

• Familiarity with system monitoring and performance tuning techniques.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to work independently while actively contributing to team discussions and initiatives.

• Experience with IBM Db2.

• Experience with IBM Information Management System (IMS) Database.

• Experience supporting critical business applications in a production environment.

• Experience working with cross-functional technical teams.
