What they need

About the role

The House of Bruar is one of Scotland’s best-known independent retail and hospitality destinations. As the business grows, so does the amount of information behind it, including sales, stock, customers, suppliers and the systems that tie them together. We are creating a new Applications & Data Analyst role to help us get more value from that information and to keep our day-to-day systems running smoothly for the people who rely on them.

This is a varied, hands-on role in a small IT team. One day you might be building a sales report for a buyer, the next supporting a colleague on the CRM, writing up a process, or finding a way to automate a task that currently takes someone an afternoon. You will also play a part in helping the wider business understand and adopt new tools, including AI, in a practical and sensible way. It would suit someone early in their IT career, perhaps a recent graduate, or someone leaving college with some IT experience, who is curious, well organised and enjoys solving problems for real people.

Key responsibilities

● Reporting: build, maintain and improve regular business reports covering areas such as sales, stock and customer activity, and present the numbers clearly to the people who use them.

● Ad-hoc data requests: pull information from the database to answer specific questions from across the business, accurately and on time.

● CRM support: act as a first point of contact for users of the CRM system, answering queries, resolving issues, maintaining data quality and helping people get the most from it.

● Documentation: write and keep up to date clear documentation for systems, processes and common tasks, so knowledge is shared rather than held by one person.

● Automation: identify repetitive manual tasks and build simple, reliable automations to save time and reduce errors.

● AI adoption: help colleagues understand where AI tools can genuinely help their work, support safe and sensible use, and share good practice.

● Day-to-day IT: provide general support to users and assist the IT team with the everyday running of systems.

Essential skills & experience

● A relevant degree or college qualification, or some experience working in an IT role or environment. We are happy to hear from recent graduates as well as those with practical experience.

● A genuine interest in data, systems and solving business problems with technology.

● Good organisation and the ability to manage several tasks and requests at once.

● Clear written and spoken communication, with the confidence to support non-technical colleagues patiently.

● A methodical, accurate approach and good attention to detail.

● A willingness to learn and to pick up new tools and systems quickly.

Desirable skills & experience

● A qualification in a relevant subject such as computing, information systems, data or another numerate discipline.

● Exposure to SQL and working with databases.

● Some experience of data analysis and reporting tools (for example Excel, Power BI or similar).

● Familiarity with CRM, ERP or EPOS systems.

● Experience in a retail or hospitality environment.

● An interest in, or early experience with, automation and AI tools.

What we offer

● A broad, hands-on role with genuine variety and real responsibility from early on.

● The chance to shape a brand-new position and make it your own.

● Support to learn and grow, in a friendly and close-knit team.

● Employee benefits that increase with service including healthcare, staff discounts, volunteering days

Pay: From £28,177.50 per year

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Discounted or free food
  • Employee discount
  • Free parking
  • Private dental insurance
  • Referral programme
