  2. Size and select loop components and instrumentation, accounting for materials compatibility, pressure boundary requirements, and applicable codes.
  3. Fabricate, assemble, and commission test loops, including hazard reviews, pressure testing, and establishment of operating limits.
  4. Operate test loops per approved procedures, troubleshoot equipment and process anomalies, and support calibration and maintenance of test equipment.
  5. Prepare and execute laboratory test procedures and operating instructions.
  6. Provide technical direction to engineers and technicians on assigned projects.
  7. Manage customer technical interfaces and support proposal development.
  8. Prepare technical reports, communication exhibits, and design and test records.

Subject to company and project needs, the engineer may be called on to perform other functions suited to their expertise, including but not limited to:

  1. Acting as an individual contributor on projects unrelated to their primary project.
  2. Travel up to 10 to 15% of the time for field deployment, customer, or industry meetings.
  3. Supporting other laboratory test programs as needed.

Competencies:

  1. Strong command of chemical engineering fundamentals, including mass and energy balances, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, and reaction kinetics.
  2. Working knowledge of fluid system design, process instrumentation, and control.
  3. Understanding of pressure boundary design, materials compatibility, and corrosion.
  4. Hands-on mechanical aptitude, comfortable personally building and operating test equipment.
  5. Ability to provide technical direction and shift between lead and contributor roles.
  6. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Demands:

The employee regularly works in laboratory and office environments, with occasional overtime and non-standard hours. The employee regularly stands, kneels, crouches, and uses hand tools and fine motor skills while assembling and operating test equipment, wearing appropriate PPE around pressurized, heated, chemical, and electrical hazards. The employee occasionally climbs stairs and ladders or work at heights up to approximately 30 feet. The employee must frequently lift up to [25] pounds and occasionally up to [50] pounds with lifting aids as appropriate. 1. BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, and a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating test loops, pilot plants, or similar fluid process systems.
  3. Demonstrated experience selecting and installing process instrumentation.
  4. Preferred: Experience in nuclear, power generation, or similar industries, with high-temperature, high-pressure water systems, and under a formal quality program (e.g., NQA-1).
