What they need
Applied Computer Vision Data Scientist / Senior Software Engineer
Specialism: Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs)
The Role
We’re looking for experienced developers and data scientists with hands-on knowledge of Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) to join a growing AI engineering team.
You’ll contribute to the development of an SNN engine, turning advanced research into practical software applications. This is an opportunity to work on emerging neural network architectures, contribute to core AI technologies and see your work directly influence product development.
We’re looking for candidates who combine a strong technical understanding of SNNs with excellent software development skills, particularly in C++ and CUDA. Experience with Python, PyTorch and computer vision is also highly valuable.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and enhance Spiking Neural Network (SNN) technologies for practical engineering applications.
- Apply SNNs, computer vision and image analysis techniques to challenging technical problems.
- Contribute to software architecture, system design and the development of core AI/ML components.
- Explore and implement machine learning algorithms, including CNNs and Vision Transformers where required.
- Support the development of synthetic training image generation pipelines using digital 3D models and simulation environments.
- Help curate and process imagery for model training, validation and testing, including synthetic and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) imagery.
- Develop high-quality, maintainable software using established engineering practices.
- Contribute to version control, automated testing and CI/CD pipelines to support reliable software delivery.
- Collaborate with researchers, data scientists and software engineers to translate research into working applications.
- Support technical planning, project delivery and the development of new AI/ML capabilities.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Hands-on experience developing Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs).
- Strong C++ programming and software development skills.
- Knowledge of CUDA and GPU programming.
- Understanding of machine learning, neural network architectures and their practical implementation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop high-quality software using appropriate engineering practices.
- Experience collaborating with technical teams to deliver complex development projects.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience applying SNNs to computer vision, machine vision or image analysis.
- Experience with Python and PyTorch.
- Knowledge of CNNs, Vision Transformers and other deep learning architectures.
- Experience with synthetic data generation, 3D models or simulation platforms.
- Familiarity with ISR imagery or other specialist image datasets.
- Experience with version control, automated testing, CI/CD and software quality assurance.
- Postgraduate or postdoctoral research involving SNNs or neuroscience-inspired AI.
- Experience translating research outputs into commercially deployable software.
Education
An MSc or PhD in Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics or a related discipline, with a specialisation in or experience working with SNNs, would be beneficial.
Equivalent commercial experience developing advanced AI systems will also be considered.
Security Requirements
Candidates must be eligible to obtain UK security clearance. The ability to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required, with Security Check (SC) clearance or higher desirable.
What’s on Offer?
- The opportunity to work on emerging AI architectures and advanced neural network technologies.
- Exposure to research-led engineering and the development of core AI products.
- Collaboration with experienced researchers, data scientists and software engineers.
- The chance to contribute directly to technical development and product delivery.
- Opportunities to work across computer vision, machine learning and advanced software engineering.
