Apprentice Chocolate Maker

About the role

We are seeking an Apprentice Chocolate Maker to join the team at Bennetts of Mangawhai. This full-time role is based in Mangawhai, Northland, and offers the chance to develop expertise in chocolate making and confectionery production. As an apprentice, you will work alongside experienced chocolate makers, learning the craft whilst contributing to our production operations. This role is perfect for someone passionate about food production and eager to develop specialised skills in a growing artisanal business.

Bennetts of Mangawhai is an artisanal chocolate and confectionery producer. We pride ourselves on creating quality products using traditional methods combined with modern techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting in the preparation and processing of chocolate, including tempering, moulding and casting

• Learning and executing various chocolate-making techniques under supervision

• Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the production workspace, adhering to food safety and hygiene standards

• Supporting senior chocolate makers with production tasks and special orders

• Learning to operate and maintain equipment used in chocolate manufacturing

• Contributing to inventory management and stock rotation of ingredients and finished goods

• Developing knowledge of chocolate varieties, flavours and production methods

What we're looking for

• A genuine interest in chocolate making, confectionery production or food manufacturing
• Willingness to learn and develop practical skills in a hands-on environment
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a production setting
• Good hygiene awareness and understanding of food safety principles
• Physical capability to perform standing work and manual tasks throughout the day
• Reliability, punctuality and a professional attitude to work
• Preferably some experience in food production, hospitality or manufacturing (though not essential for the right candidate)
