Apprentice Greenkeeper

The Apprentice Greenkeeper will work alongside experienced greenkeeping staff to learn all aspects of golf course maintenance and turf management. This role combines practical, hands-on experience with formal training, leading to a recognised qualification in sports turf management.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the daily preparation and presentation of the golf course, including mowing greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and maintaining bunkers
• Learn and apply best practices in turf management, including aeration, top dressing, overseeding, fertiliser application, and irrigation
• Safely operate and maintain a range of greenkeeping machinery and equipment, including mowers, strimmers, and tractors
• Support course improvement projects, landscaping work, and seasonal maintenance activities
• Monitor course conditions and report any issues to senior members of the team
• Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake early morning and weekend duties as required
• Attend and successfully complete all apprenticeship training and assessment requirements

Person Specification

Essential

• A genuine interest in greenkeeping, turf care, outdoor work, golf
• A willingness to learn and develop new skills
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to completing the apprenticeship programme
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude towards teamwork
• Prepared to undertake a physically demanding job and outdoor manual work

Desirable

• An interest in golf
• Previous experience of outdoor work, grounds maintenance, or landscaping
• Full UK driving licence or currently working towards obtaining one
