Apprentice Nursery Assistant (Term Time Only)

St Mary’s & St Joseph’s School Pocklington, are recruiting a Nursery Assistant for our Nursery and Reception classes. We are a supportive and friendly school where you will have the opportunity to become part of a brilliant staff team with opportunities to develop your skills working under the direction of our teachers and EYFS Lead.

The pay scale indicated is the current minimum Apprenticeship rate of £8.00 per hour.

Training course Early years practitioner Hours Monday to Friday. Start- 8:00am. Finish- 4:00pm.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

We have amazing pupils who are eager to learn and supportive families. This role is perfect for someone who wants to develop their experience working with young pupils in the nursery/reception classes.

• To support teaching and learning in our nursery
• To support the class teacher in all aspects of day-to-day school life
• To help our youngest pupils to develop their skills and understanding
• To communicate with parents and carers about their children
• To ensure that all pupils are safeguarded effectively

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan:

• Craven College Early Years Tutor will make regular visits to the workplace to meet with the Apprentice to set work to be completed and make observations of real work activities with the children
• The Apprentice will have 6 hours paid time per week for completion of assignments / activities and other forms of evidence for achievement of the Level 2 Apprenticeship

More training information

• A high level of support with monthly tutor visits
• Work alongside qualified professionals whilst undertaking on-the-job training
• At the end of the course, a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner qualification will be awarded
• Functional Skills in Maths & English will be provided if not already achieved

Requirements/ Essential qualifications

• GCSE English (Grade 4 / C or above) essential
• GCSE Maths (Grade 4 / C or above) essential

The role will sometimes be outside in the fresh air and working with these young infants and children does involve physical work too.

Our Nursery and Reception class numbers are growing. We hope that the role will lead to the successful applicant staying with us and progressing after Level 2 to achieve a Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship.
