What they need

Ko nga pae tawhiti, whaia kia tata. Ko nga pae tata, whakamaua kia tina.
The potential of tomorrow depends on what we do today.

Drowning Prevention Auckland (DPA) is seeking an experienced and skilled Aquatic Educator to join their team in a full-time, permanent capacity.  This position supports the delivery and quality of water competence education across Tāmaki Makaurau.  This role will start in the new year, ideally commencing in mid-January.

DPA was formed with a vision of an Auckland free from drowning. This role supports the delivery of drowning prevention education across the region, strengthening participants' knowledge, competence, and approach to water safety so that our communities can enjoy being in, on, and around the water in safer ways.

The ideal person for this role has a strong passion for water safety and education, along with strong practical aquatic skills and confidence across a range of aquatic environments.

Key accountabilities for this role include:

  • Promoting and providing drowning prevention education across the community.
  • Supporting the quality and consistency of programme delivery across all DPA programmes.
  • Maintaining strong networks with clients, schools, workplaces, community groups, and organisations that support drowning prevention education.
  • Undertaking programme design, delivery, evaluation, and improvement based on research and evaluation-informed methods.
  • Acting with cultural competence at all times and building relationships across diverse communities.
  • Supporting operational readiness and safe delivery practices where required.
  • Having strong organisational skills and the ability to support operational planning, logistics, and equipment readiness.

Are you the person we are looking for?

In addition to undertaking the above, you will:

  • Bring strong water experience and competence - including being able to comfortably swim 200m unaided and tread water or float for 5 minutes.
  • Effective group management skills of a group in the water, including in both normal and emergency situations
  • Meet the physical demands of handling specialist aquatic equipment.
  • Hold a current workplace first aid certificate and a full New Zealand driver's Licence.
  • Be prepared to work in the evenings and on weekends and be able to travel outside of Auckland on occasion (DPA operates as a 7-day-a-week business).

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Snorkel diving experience.
  • Qualifications or experience in health and safety, risk assessment, and risk management.
  • Experience in sport and recreation, teaching and learning, community service, injury prevention, cultural competency, or other related professional development.

We are looking for someone whose values align with the culture of DPA. You will be self-directed, show initiative, communicate clearly, and enjoy working as part of a dedicated team. You will be an active listener and able to build strong relationships with participants, colleagues, and stakeholders.

In return, you will join a supportive team with hands-on leadership, a positive culture, and genuine opportunities for professional growth and career development.

If you believe you would be a great fit for this position, please contact Jaime at Marbles People and Culture Hub to request a job description or apply with your CV and cover letter to [email protected]. All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence. Marbles exclusively manages the recruitment for this role, ensuring your application is reviewed promptly.

Applications initially close at 5 pm on Sunday 15 November 2026. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the recruitment period may close earlier if a suitable candidate is appointed.

If a candidate is shortlisted and invited for an interview, in-person interviews will be held (at Westhaven Marina) in the week of 9 December 2026.

We look forward to receiving your application.
