We are building for the future — and there’s never been a better time to join the City. Driven by the Council Plan 2025–2035 and the priorities of our community, we are growing our team and creating new roles that will help us deliver meaningful, lasting impact.

If you are looking for more than just your next role, this is your opportunity to be part of an organisation with purpose, energy and ambition, and to do work that truly matters to the community we serve.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and customer-focused Part Time Aquatics Officer to join our Aquatics team. This diverse and hands-on role combines the responsibilities of a Lifeguard, Swim Teacher and Aquatics Duty Manager, providing an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the safety, education and enjoyment of our aquatic facility users. Working across pool supervision, swim instruction and operational leadership, you will help deliver a safe, welcoming and high-quality aquatic experience for patrons of all ages. You will play a key role in maintaining facility standards, promoting water safety, responding to emergencies, supporting daily operations and providing exceptional customer service to the community.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supervise pools and aquatic areas to ensure a safe environment for patrons, enforce facility rules, perform rescues when required and provide first aid and emergency response.
  • Deliver engaging swim lessons and water safety programs, adapting instruction to suit a range of ages and abilities while encouraging participant development and confidence.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of the aquatic facility, including water quality testing, plant monitoring, facility inspections and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Support aquatic operations by responding to customer enquiries, supervising activities, liaising with user groups and staff, and acting as a leader on shift to ensure smooth and efficient facility operations.

What We're Looking For

  • Current Pool Lifeguard qualification, First Aid and CPR certification, and an accredited Swim Teacher qualification (AUSTSWIM, Royal Life Saving or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in aquatic environments, including pool supervision, swim instruction and the ability to coordinate or supervise operational activities.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage positively with children, families, user groups and the broader community.
  • A proactive team player with sound judgement, strong safety awareness and the ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance
  • LIWA Accreditation or willingness to obtain (desired)
  • Experience conducting water quality testing and operating aquatic plant equipment (desired)
  • Previous leadership, duty management or supervisory experience within an aquatic facility (desired)

Why Join Us?

  • 6 weeks annual leave and 13% superannuation (pro rata)
  • Allowances of up to $25,103 per annum (pro rata)
  • Enjoy your own Free individual membership to our recreation centres and pool facilities, and access $500 of Salary Sacrifice arrangements that can be used for specific programmes or family memberships
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for confidential wellbeing support
  • Opportunities for professional development and to make a meaningful impact in the community
