In this energetic role, you will lead a multi-year archaeological investigation, manage data collection efforts, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure responsible excavation and research practices. Your expertise will help illuminate history through meticulous analysis, assisting in innovative research, and detailed reporting. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful groundbreaking work (pun intended) that combines extensive fieldwork, technical skills, scholarly contribution, and management of intern field techs. This position is contingent on the results of a biomass extraction for radiocarbon dating to be conducted by the archaeologist in Charlestown, IN. We can explain more in person.

- Collect, document, and analyze archaeological data using GPS devices, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and ArcGIS software to create detailed spatial maps.
- Manage laboratory processing of artifacts, ensuring proper conservation, cataloging, and data entry.
- Utilize technical skills in report writing to prepare comprehensive findings for academic publications, project documentation, and stakeholder presentations.
- Supervise junior team members or interns during fieldwork and laboratory activities to promote safety and best practices.
- Prepare detailed reports that communicate research findings clearly and effectively for diverse audiences.
Requirements
- Proven experience in laboratory settings working with artifacts or similar data processing tasks.
- Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS for spatial analysis and mapping purposes.
- Strong knowledge of GPS technology for accurate location data collection in the field.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough research, analyze complex data sets, and synthesize findings into clear reports.
- Excellent technical writing skills for preparing detailed documentation and scholarly articles.
- Previous supervising experience of archaeological techs in archaeological projects as a Principle Investigator is a requirement.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with field excavations including lifting, digging, and prolonged outdoor activity.
