Architect

A client is seeking an experienced Architect or Abattoir Design Specialist to assist with the establishment and approval of a new abattoir in Randfontein, Gauteng.

The successful professional or firm will be responsible for supporting the project from the initial site assessment and design stage through to the relevant regulatory approvals and operational readiness.

Previous experience working on abattoir projects, food-processing facilities, agricultural developments, or similar regulated facilities will be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Conducting a site visit and feasibility assessment.
• Assessing the site in relation to the proposed abattoir development.
• Developing the abattoir design and preparing architectural drawings.
• Providing professional advice on applicable legislation, regulations and compliance requirements.
• Advising on Veterinary Public Health requirements relevant to abattoir operations.
• Liaising with the relevant municipality, council and government authorities.
• Preparing and submitting the required plans, documentation and applications.
• Managing the approval process from submission through to final approval.
• Identifying potential regulatory or approval challenges and providing practical solutions.
• Coordinating with relevant professionals, consultants and authorities where required.
• Providing guidance to the client through to final approval and operational readiness.
• Taking ownership of the overall approval process and ensuring that project requirements are properly coordinated.

Minimum Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

• A relevant qualification in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Abattoir Design, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field.
• Relevant professional registration where applicable.
• Proven experience in architectural design and project approvals.
• Previous experience with abattoir design or similar regulated facilities will be highly advantageous.
• Good knowledge of municipal planning and building approval processes.
• Knowledge of applicable abattoir legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Understanding of Veterinary Public Health requirements.
• Experience dealing with municipalities and relevant government authorities.
• Strong project management and coordination skills.
• Ability to manage the project from design through to approval.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
