Business Development Architect Role Summary
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire (hybrid, with remote working available)
Salary: £50-75k plus [commission / BD bonus structure]
HAUS is working with an established, RIBA-chartered architecture practice with a strong portfolio across residential, commercial and industrial projects . They are now looking to appoint a qualified Architect with a strong business development mindset to join their growing team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an Architect who enjoys both winning work and delivering it . You will take ownership of new opportunities from initial enquiry through to appointment, while remaining involved as Project Architect on the schemes you help bring into the practice.
The Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the practice’s project pipeline, building relationships with new and existing clients, and converting opportunities into live projects.
You’ll be involved in:
- Identifying and developing new business opportunities across residential, commercial and industrial sectors .
- Leading initial client meetings and site visits, providing early advice around planning, feasibility, massing and budget .
- Preparing fee proposals, scopes of service and presentation material, as well as negotiating appointments.
- Building and maintaining relationships with developers, landowners, agents, contractors, planning consultants and repeat clients .
- Managing the CRM and keeping track of the pipeline, conversion rates and revenue forecasts.
- Taking on Project Architect responsibility for selected schemes, from concept and planning through to technical delivery.
- Representing the practice at networking events and within local property and business networks.
- Supporting the practice’s profile and lead generation through LinkedIn and other relevant channels.
About You
The practice is looking for an ARB-registered Architect , ideally RIBA chartered, who combines strong architectural delivery experience with the confidence and commercial awareness to develop new business.
You’ll ideally have:
- Demonstrable experience delivering warehouse, industrial or logistics projects , including change of use, new-build units and mixed warehouse/office schemes.
- A strong residential portfolio , particularly across planning and technical stages.
- Previous experience in business development, fee negotiation, client acquisition or winning work .
- Good knowledge of UK planning, including permitted development and Class E, B2 and B8 use classes .
- A solid understanding of Building Regulations and CDM .
- Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce compelling proposals.
- Proficiency in Revit or ArchiCAD , alongside AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite.
Desirable Experience
It would be particularly beneficial if you have:
- An existing network of developers, commercial agents or industrial landlords across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire or North London.
- Experience using CRM systems and LinkedIn as part of a business development strategy.
- Knowledge of BREEAM, Part L, EPCs and low-carbon/solar-integrated design .
- Experience working within a design-and-build procurement environment.
Working Pattern
The role offers a hybrid working arrangement , with approximately 2–3 days per week based in the practice’s St Albans office for studio collaboration, client meetings and site visits, with the remainder available to work from home.
There will be some flexibility required around client meetings and site visits, with the necessary equipment provided for home working.
What’s on Offer
This is a particularly good opportunity for an Architect who wants to have a genuine commercial influence within a practice , rather than simply being responsible for project delivery.
You’ll have:
- Direct access to the Director and significant autonomy.
- Performance-linked remuneration based on successful business development.
- The opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of residential, commercial and industrial projects.
- Project-lead responsibility on schemes you originate .
- The chance to play a key role in the continued growth of an established practice.
