Software Architect – Senior Full-Stack Engineer

We’re seeking a highly experienced Software Architect / Senior Full-Stack Engineer with deep, hands-on Java and Spring Boot expertise combined with strong modern frontend architecture skills.

This is a true end-to-end architecture role for someone who has designed and built complex applications across the entire stack. You’ll lead architectural decisions spanning Java services, modern frontend frameworks, APIs, data architecture, and system integrations while remaining actively involved in implementation and technical problem-solving.

The ideal candidate brings substantial software architecture experience, a proven track record of leading engineering teams, and the technical depth to move confidently between backend services and frontend application architecture.

What You’ll Do:

• Own the end-to-end architecture of full-stack applications, spanning Java backend services, frontend applications, databases, APIs, and external integrations.
• Design, develop, and evolve backend services using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
• Architect scalable frontend applications using React, Angular, Vue.js, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript technologies.
• Define frontend-to-backend integration patterns, API contracts, state management strategies, and reusable component architectures.
• Establish architectural standards, design patterns, coding practices, and technical roadmaps across the full stack.
• Lead technical design reviews, mentor engineers, and guide implementation across frontend and backend development.
• Design reliable persistence layers and data models using JPA, Hibernate, Spring Data, and relational databases.
• Develop modular integration layers that isolate application functionality from external systems and hardware dependencies.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues across application, database, API, and integration layers.
• Balance modernization of existing systems with greenfield architecture and new feature development.
• Stay hands-on with code, prototypes, technical investigations, and critical implementation work.
• Partner with technical and business stakeholders to evaluate trade-offs, prioritize improvements, and guide long-term platform evolution.

Required Qualifications:

• Approximately 15–20+ years of software engineering experience, with substantial experience in software architecture and technical leadership.
• Deep, current, hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot , including enterprise application design, development, and troubleshooting.
• Strong expertise in Spring Framework and Java-based service architecture.
• Experience with Java persistence technologies, including JPA, Hibernate, or Spring Data.
• Significant modern frontend architecture experience using React, Angular, Vue.js, or comparable frameworks.
• Strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills, including experience designing reusable components, scalable UI structures, and maintainable frontend applications.
• Demonstrated ability to architect complete applications across both frontend and backend layers, rather than specializing exclusively in one.
• Experience designing REST APIs, service boundaries, distributed components, and application integrations.
• Strong SQL, relational database design, and data modeling experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, SQL Server, or similar technologies.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams, mentoring developers, and owning consequential technical decisions.
• Strong production troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across multiple application layers.
• Ability to balance architectural strategy with hands-on engineering execution.
• Willingness to work onsite in Austin approximately 3–4 days per week.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Kotlin or C# experience.
• Unity or other game development technologies.
• Python, Grafana, monitoring, or observability tools.
• Experience with hardware, peripherals, payment systems, or device integrations.
• Background in gaming, interactive entertainment, digital promotions, or other specialized software environments.
• Experience with analytics or data-driven application features.

You can own the architecture from end to end, designing backend services and data models, establishing frontend architecture, defining integration patterns, and troubleshooting complex production issues.

You’ve led engineering teams, made high-impact technical decisions, and know when to step back and set direction versus when to get into the code and solve the problem yourself.

You bring the judgment of an experienced architect, the technical depth of a strong Java engineer, and the frontend expertise to build reliable, maintainable applications from the ground up.
