What they need

Architectural Drafter / Architectural Assistant

Taber Owens Construction Group
Location: Washington, Indiana
Position Type: Full-Time

Taber Owens Construction Group is looking for an Architectural Drafter / Architectural Assistant to join our growing design and construction team.

We are looking for more than someone who can simply produce drawings. We want a creative, innovative, honest, and fun person who is willing to learn, bring new ideas to the table, and grow with our company.

This position will work closely with our Director of Architecture, project managers, estimators, superintendents, and marketing team. The right candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in everything from early project concepts and architectural drawings to construction, marketing, graphics, and company presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and revise architectural drawings and construction documents.
  • Assist with schematic design, design development, and construction document production.
  • Develop floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, details, and schedules.
  • Incorporate markups and design revisions into drawing sets.
  • Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil consultants.
  • Assist with field measurements and documentation of existing buildings.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, coordination, and completeness.
  • Assist with product research, material selections, finishes, specifications, and code-related information.
  • Help maintain drawing standards, details, templates, and project files.
  • Work with our construction team to address RFIs, submittals, field conditions, and design changes.
  • Participate in project meetings and site visits.
  • Assist with renderings, presentation graphics, project boards, and other visual materials.
  • Support company marketing and business development efforts, including project photography, social media content, proposal graphics, website materials, and company presentations.
  • Help develop creative ways to showcase our projects, people, and company culture.
  • Bring new ideas for improving our design processes, presentations, marketing, technology, and overall workflow.
  • Jump in wherever needed and be willing to learn new programs, skills, and areas of the business.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Honest, dependable, and hardworking.
  • Positive, fun, and easy to work with.
  • Creative and willing to think outside the box.
  • Innovative and interested in new technology, software, and design tools.
  • Eager to learn and not afraid to ask questions.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback and continually improving.
  • Detail-oriented while still being able to see the bigger picture.
  • Self-motivated and able to take ownership of assignments.
  • Willing to help wherever needed instead of being limited to a specific job description.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are exactly the same.

Qualifications

  • Degree, certificate, coursework, or experience in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Drafting, Construction Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with Revit preferred.
  • Experience with Canva, rendering software, or other graphic/design programs is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural or construction drawings preferred.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An eye for design, graphics, and presentation is a plus.
  • Commercial construction experience is helpful but not required.

We are willing to train the right person. Attitude, character, creativity, and willingness to learn are just as important to us as experience.

Experience Level

We are open to candidates ranging from entry-level to experienced architectural drafters or architectural assistants.

Recent graduates and candidates looking to build a career in architecture, construction, design, or marketing are encouraged to apply.

If you are someone who may not check every traditional qualification but are creative, motivated, technically minded, and willing to learn, we still want to hear from you.

Why Taber Owens?

At Taber Owens Construction Group, our architectural and construction teams work together under one roof. You won't just draw a project and never see it again. You'll have opportunities to see projects develop from an idea on paper to an actual building in the field.

This position provides exposure to architecture, construction, estimating, marketing, business development, graphics, and project management, making it a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop a broad range of skills.

We offer:

  • Hands-on experience from concept through construction.
  • Direct collaboration with architects, project managers, estimators, and field personnel.
  • A variety of commercial, municipal, educational, and renovation projects.
  • Opportunities to explore new technology and innovative design tools.
  • Opportunities to contribute ideas and make an impact within the company.
  • Professional growth and increasing responsibility.
  • A collaborative environment where personality and creativity are encouraged.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits based on experience.
