What they need

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and physically fit Architectural Glass Loader / Dispatch Operative to join our team.

The role involves handling, loading, securing and dispatching architectural glass products, which can be extremely heavy, large, fragile and awkward to manoeuvre. This is a physically demanding, hands-on position requiring a good level of strength, stamina, coordination and a positive attitude towards manual work.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a busy warehouse and dispatch environment, handling challenging loads as part of a team, and following strict health and safety procedures to ensure glass products are handled and transported safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Loading and unloading architectural glass products onto and off delivery vehicles.
  • Handling large, heavy and awkward glass panels using appropriate equipment and safe handling techniques.
  • Preparing, checking and organising glass orders ready for dispatch and delivery.
  • Securing glass safely for transportation to prevent movement, damage or breakage.
  • Assisting drivers with vehicle loading, unloading and delivery preparation.
  • Checking products against delivery notes and dispatch paperwork to ensure accuracy.
  • Using lifting aids, handling equipment and protective equipment as required.
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy and organised warehouse and loading area.
  • Carrying out visual checks on products and reporting any damage, defects or discrepancies.
  • Working closely with warehouse colleagues, drivers and management to meet dispatch deadlines.
  • Following all company procedures relating to manual handling, glass handling, personal protective equipment and workplace safety.
  • Carrying out other reasonable warehouse and dispatch duties as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Good physical strength and stamina to undertake demanding manual work throughout the working day.
  • The ability to handle large, heavy and awkward products safely, working independently where appropriate and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable with a role involving frequent physical activity, standing, walking, lifting and manoeuvring materials.
  • A strong awareness of health and safety, particularly when handling fragile, heavy and potentially hazardous materials.
  • A reliable, punctual and hardworking attitude.
  • Good attention to detail when checking orders and preparing deliveries.
  • The ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet dispatch deadlines.
  • A team-player mentality, with clear communication skills and a willingness to help colleagues.
  • A proactive approach to keeping the workplace clean, safe and organised.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience in a warehouse, loading, dispatch or goods-handling role.
  • Experience handling glass, glazing products, building materials or other heavy and fragile products.
  • Familiarity with manual handling equipment, lifting aids and securing loads for transportation.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced warehouse or distribution environment.

Full training will be provided on company procedures, equipment and safe glass-handling practices where required.

Physical Demands of the Role

This is a physically demanding position and is not a light warehouse or packing role. Architectural glass can be heavy, bulky, fragile and difficult to manoeuvre, requiring careful handling, physical effort and close coordination with colleagues.

The successful candidate must be capable of sustaining physical activity throughout the working day and be comfortable working with heavy and awkward materials. All lifting and handling must be carried out in accordance with company risk assessments, safe systems of work and manual handling procedures. Appropriate handling equipment and team assistance must be used wherever required.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Physically capable, energetic and hardworking.
  • Safety-conscious and sensible when handling heavy or fragile products.
  • Dependable, punctual and committed to doing a job properly.
  • Practical, organised and attentive to detail.
  • Willing to get stuck in and support the wider team.
  • Calm and focused when working to deadlines.
