THE OPPORTUNITY

We’re hiring an Architectural Staff Level II professional with six or more years of experience, ideally in the multifamily and commercial markets, for our Chicago Office. You’ll take responsibility for projects from programming and concept design through construction documents — serving as the project architect or working directly alongside one, depending on your experience — and lead construction administration on mid-size to large projects. The runway from here is real: client relationships, technical leadership, and mentoring the next generation of the studio.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Design & Documentation

– Serve as the project architect — or assist the project architect — in developing conceptual designs and leading projects through construction documentation and construction administration.

– Prepare drawing packages for schematic design, design development, permit, and construction documents.

– Develop contract documents — plans, details, sections, elevations, and schedules — and execute red-marked revisions.

– Prepare mock-ups of drawing packages and perform area calculations to specified standards.

– Apply an advanced understanding of design practices and respond to the technical implications of design decisions.

Coordination & Quality

– Evaluate and integrate engineering systems into the project documents; lead detailed coordination with consultants.

– Coordinate drawings with specifications.

– Implement code, accessibility, and zoning analyses.

– Provide technical oversight of exterior wall assemblies and accessibility.

– Perform site analysis, including surveys of existing conditions and field measurements.

– Work to Built Form design standards, within project budgets and schedules.

Construction Administration

– Review RFIs and shop drawing submittals.

– Conduct field observations to monitor the progress of construction.

Leadership & Client Engagement

– Assist in client communication; may participate in marketing presentations and client meetings.

– Coordinate contractor, consultant, and vendor assignments.

– May organize, direct, and mentor junior staff.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

– Professional degree in architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).

– Six or more years of professional experience; multifamily and commercial experience preferred.

– Proficiency in Revit (required); experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), and MS Office.

– Working knowledge of project design, construction documentation, construction materials, and building systems.

– Strong communication and organizational skills; able to lead work across multiple projects.

– Active progress toward licensure (AXP / ARE divisions) strongly encouraged.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary range: $70,000 – $90,000 per year, aligned with experience, skills, and studio location.
