Architectural Technician / Technologist

Freelance technical design and drawing production | London residential projects

Day rate: £200-£240 per day, depending on experience; plus VAT where applicable.

Location: Remote, anywhere in the UK, with travel to London sites and meetings.

Engagement: Freelance / project-based. Workload and start date agreed at appointment.

Travel: Required at agreed project stages. Travel time and expenses agreed in advance.

The opportunity

We are looking for a practical, detail-focused technician or technologist to turn approved designs into clear, coordinated tender and construction information. You will work with our team, external architects, engineers, suppliers and contractors.

What you will do

• Produce and update plans, elevations, sections, setting-out drawings and construction details.
• Prepare window, door, ironmongery and finishes schedules; coordinate supplier information.
• Produce reflected ceiling plans (RCPs), coordinating lighting, grilles, detectors, access panels and ceiling levels with specialist designs.
• Detail kitchens, bathrooms, joinery and material junctions; incorporate structural and MEP information and flag clashes.
• Maintain drawing registers, revisions and issue records; respond to technical queries within your competence.
• Attend agreed London site visits to check dimensions and interfaces, record issues and incorporate authorised changes.

What you will bring

• Proven UK residential technical delivery experience, with examples of construction packages you personally produced.
• Strong AutoCAD skills; Revit desirable. Sound knowledge of English Building Regulations, buildability and consultant coordination.
• Architectural Technology qualification or equivalent practical experience; CIAT membership desirable.
• Ability to work independently, manage agreed deadlines and communicate clearly with site teams.
• Experience of quality interiors and refurbishment is valuable.

Scope and application

You will coordinate specialist information; structural calculations and MEP engineering remain with the appointed specialists. Design checking and issue responsibilities will be agreed for each package.
