Architectural Technologist

About Us:
Polyline Designs Inc. is a drafting and design firm working across a diverse mix of projects, including custom house plans, small and mid-rise apartment buildings, and commercial developments. We’re a small team that values practical, buildable design and strong technical work.

The Position:
We’re looking for an experienced Architectural Technologist who can step in and contribute from day one. You’ll take projects from early space planning through permit and construction drawings, able to work with minimal supervision and coordinating with other staff, consultants, and contractors. This role is ideal for someone who knows the code, understands how buildings actually go together, and can think outside the box.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with and/or manage building design projects from conceptual design to construction-ready drawings
• Analyze building codes, by-laws, site, space, and permit requirements, and identify potential design limitations
• Coordinate with consultants and contractors
• Work independently and collaboratively with senior and junior staff to progress designs and solve problems
• Complete technical drawings in AutoCAD and conceptual designs using other software
• Conduct site visits to gather existing building information, review construction progress, and prepare construction reports
• Additional duties based on the applicant’s knowledge and experience

Qualifications:

• Diploma in Architectural Technology or a similar technical diploma from an accredited institution
• 5 years of experience in an architectural or design firm in Canada preferred
• Strong understanding of the National Building Code of Canada
• Solid understanding of Canadian construction methods, including wood-frame, steel, and concrete construction, and building envelope detailing
• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD
• Clear written and verbal communication in English
• Strong attention to detail
• Good time management and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
• Valid driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle

Assets:

• Relevant work experience in architectural design, construction detailing, construction review, or drafting
• Experience with Chief Architect/Home Designer, 3D modelling and rendering software such as SketchUp, Lumion, and D5 Render, and Adobe Creative Suite
• Registration or eligibility to register with NBSCETT
