About the Role

A leading organization within the Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Building Technologies space is seeking an experienced Area Operations Manager to lead operational performance across a multi-state territory.

This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing project execution, financial performance, workforce development, customer satisfaction, and operational improvement across a large and diverse project portfolio.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in BAS, building controls, or building technologies , combined with proven experience leading operations in a project-based environment. This individual should be comfortable managing through other leaders, partnering closely with sales and project teams, and taking ownership of both the technical and business sides of the operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall operational leadership across the assigned regional territory.
• Lead project execution and delivery while ensuring projects meet scope, schedule, quality, and financial expectations.
• Own operational performance, including revenue, gross margin, cost control, profitability, and cash flow.
• Monitor project and financial performance, identify risks, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
• Lead regular cost and performance reviews across the project portfolio.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency, project execution, and profitability.
• Partner closely with Sales to support estimating, pricing, scope development, customer strategy, and competitive opportunities.
• Work collaboratively with Project Management, Engineering, Service, and other operational teams to ensure effective project delivery.
• Lead and develop a team of operations professionals and managers, including workforce planning, hiring, performance management, and talent development.
• Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer service, and continuous improvement.
• Maintain strong relationships with key customers and provide leadership in resolving escalated issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve customer satisfaction, project performance, and overall operational effectiveness.
• Lead organizational and operational change initiatives across the region.
• Establish consistent processes, best practices, and performance expectations across the operation.
• Partner with senior leadership on market strategy, business growth, resource planning, and operational priorities.
• Ensure appropriate utilization and allocation of resources to support current projects and future growth.
• Provide technical and operational leadership related to BAS and building technology solutions.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of successful operations management experience in a project-based environment.
• Strong experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), building controls, or building technologies .
• Proven experience leading teams, including management-level employees or other operations leaders .
• Strong project execution and delivery experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing revenue, margins, project costs, budgets, and financial performance .
• Experience partnering closely with Sales, Project Management, Engineering, and other operational teams.
• Strong customer-facing and relationship-management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to identify operational challenges and implement meaningful improvements.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the assigned territory.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or a related field .
• Experience within a BAS, controls, building automation, HVAC controls, or building technologies organization.
• Experience managing a significant regional operation or multi-location team.
• Experience managing other Operations Managers or senior operational leaders.
• Strong understanding of commercial building systems and controls.
• Experience managing a large project portfolio with multiple concurrent projects.
• Experience leading organizational transformation or operational restructuring.

This role will oversee a substantial regional operation with:

• A significant portfolio of active BAS and building technology projects.

• Responsibility for project execution, financial performance, staffing, and customer relationships.
• A combination of smaller projects and larger, technically complex initiatives.

The successful candidate will be expected to understand the details of the operation while also maintaining a broader view of financial performance, organizational effectiveness, customer satisfaction, and long-term growth.

Location & Travel

Location: Denver, Colorado

Territory: Multi-state Rocky Mountain region

Travel: Regular regional travel required based on customer, project, and business needs.
