AI Lab Intern ( Philadelphia, PA - Full-Time Internship)

About the Role:

We’re looking for a curious, technically minded AI Lab Intern who has real experience working with artificial intelligence or machine learning in a university research environment.

You’re currently a college junior or senior working in an AI or machine learning lab—as a research assistant, undergraduate researcher, or student conducting your own research under the guidance of a professor. You’ve spent meaningful time working with AI models and have developed your own perspective on where they succeed, where they fail, and why.

This internship is an opportunity to take that academic experience into the real world.

You’ll explore what happens when the techniques you’ve worked with in the lab meet messy operational data, real users, and actual deadlines . You’ll help experiment with AI solutions, evaluate their performance, identify failure points, and translate research concepts into practical applications.

What You’ll Do:

• Work directly with AI and machine learning models and evaluate their performance on real-world data
• Experiment with different prompting, modeling, evaluation, and data-processing approaches
• Analyze where AI systems perform well and where they break down
• Work with unstructured, incomplete, and messy operational data
• Help develop and test AI-powered workflows and internal tools
• Design experiments and evaluate results
• Identify patterns, edge cases, failure modes, and opportunities for improvement
• Collaborate with team members to turn research concepts into practical applications
• Document experiments, findings, methodologies, and recommendations
• Help determine which ideas are worth pursuing and which need to be reconsidered
• Work within real-world constraints, including deadlines, changing requirements, and imperfect data

What We’re Looking For:

• Currently enrolled as a college junior or senior
• Currently working or conducting research in a university AI, machine learning, computer science, data science, or related lab
• Experience as a research assistant, undergraduate researcher, or student researcher
• Hands-on experience working with AI or machine learning models
• A strong curiosity about how AI systems actually behave—not just how they are supposed to behave
• Ability to think critically about model outputs and identify errors, limitations, and failure modes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working independently and figuring things out without a prescribed answer
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work full-time in a fast-moving environment with real deadlines

Nice to Have

• Experience with Python
• Experience with machine learning or AI frameworks
• Familiarity with LLMs, generative AI, NLP, computer vision, or other modern AI applications
• Experience working with APIs or AI developer tools
• Experience cleaning, analyzing, or transforming datasets
• Experience designing experiments or evaluating model performance
• Experience presenting research findings or technical work
