AS400 Cobol Developer

About the role

This role involves analysing business and system requirements and translating them into technical specifications and solutions. You will perform COBOL development and enhancement for core banking payment applications, developing and maintaining programs, batch processing and interfaces using COBOL, AS400 and DB2.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse business and system requirements and translate them into technical specifications and solutions
• Perform COBOL development and enhancement for core banking payment applications
• Develop and maintain programs, batch processing and interfaces using COBOL, AS400 and DB2
• Conduct impact analysis, technical design, coding, unit testing, SIT/UAT support and production deployment
• Troubleshoot application issues and provide warranty / post-implementation support
• Work closely with Business Analysts, QA teams and other technology teams throughout the development lifecycle
• Perform database analysis and SQL development using DB2
• Manage source code and application releases using Aldon
• Support integration with upstream/downstream banking and payment systems
• Prepare technical documentation and ensure adherence to development and release standards

About you

• Diploma/Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline
• 5+ years of COBOL development experience, preferably in banking or financial services
• Strong hands-on experience in AS400 / IBM i, COBOL and DB2
• Experience with Aldon or similar source code/version control and deployment tools
• Strong understanding of batch processing, file handling, database processing and system integration
• Proven experience across the full SDLC, including requirements analysis, development, testing, deployment and warranty support
• Experience in core banking, payment systems or financial transaction processing is highly preferred
• Good analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills
