Assay Scientist

Company Overview

Spectrix is seeking a highly motivated scientist with diverse experience to support the biophysics team in Princetion, NJ.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support multiple scientists and project teams by prioritizing with manager and executing experimental requests while maintaining high quality and turnaround expectations.
• Perform Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) experiments, including reagent preparation, assay setup, sensor surface generation, sample analysis, and data acquisition.
• Execute thermal shift assays, including nano Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (nDSF) and dye-based Thermal Shift Assays (TSA).
• Perform additional biophysical assays as needed, including calorimetry, spectral shift assays, and other methods.
• Accurately document experiments, results, and observations in electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs).
• Prepare clear experimental summaries and communicate assay status and results to stakeholders.
• Perform protein characterization and buffer optimization studies, as needed, using techniques such as SDS-PAGE, light scattering, and protein stability assessments.
• Maintain laboratory instrumentation and perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and upkeep of biophysical platforms, including Biacore and Auto ITC systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
• Hands-on experience performing Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) assays in an academic or industry research environment.
• Experience with protein biochemistry, protein handling, and buffer preparation.
• Ability to manage and prioritize experimental requests from multiple scientists and project teams.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to generating high-quality experimental data.
• Experience documenting laboratory work in electronic laboratory notebooks.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, matrixed research environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to learn new techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with thermal shift methodologies, including nDSF and dye-based TSA.
• Experience with laboratory automation and liquid handling platforms such as Tecan, Echo, or CyBio FeliX.
• Familiarity with protein characterization techniques, including SDS-PAGE, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), SEC-MALS, and LC-MS.
• Experience with calorimetry and other biophysical methods.
• Experience operating and maintaining Biacore instrumentation in a multi-project research environment.

Pay: $30.00 - $37.00 per hour
