Assembly Production Supervisor

Assembly Production Supervisor Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Assembly Production Supervisor to lead a small-to-medium sized production team in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment. The supervisor will manage day-to-day assembly operations, coordinate fabrication and welding activities, ensure product quality and on-time delivery, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining safety and compliance. This role requires hands-on process knowledge, strong leadership, and the ability to plan resources and schedules for variable production demands.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coach a team of assemblers, fabricators, and welders; assign work, set priorities, and monitor performance to meet production goals.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate production activities in a high-mix, low-volume environment to optimize throughput while minimizing lead time and work-in-process.
• Oversee fabrication and welding operations, ensuring proper setup, fixtures, and processes for MIG, TIG, and other relevant welding methods.
• Ensure products meet quality standards by enforcing inspection procedures, first-article checks, and root-cause problem solving for defects.
• Maintain a safe workplace by enforcing safety protocols, conducting toolbox talks, and ensuring employees use PPE and follow lockout/tagout and other safety procedures.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and procurement to resolve manufacturing issues, implement design for manufacturability improvements, and manage material availability.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives (5S, lean, Kaizen) to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and stabilize processes.
• Track and report production metrics (output, yield, utilization, downtime) and provide regular status updates to management.
• Train new hires and develop cross-skilled teams to increase flexibility and coverage across operations.
• Maintain and update production documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures; support ERP/MRP transactions for shop floor activities.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on assembly or fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment; 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role preferred.
• Direct experience with high-mix, low-volume production methods, including scheduling and batch planning.
• Practical knowledge of fabrication and welding processes (MIG, TIG, brazing), welding symbols, fixtures, and quality inspection criteria.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, and bills of materials.
• Proven problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement tools (5S, Kaizen), and shop floor data tracking.
• Working knowledge of safety regulations and ability to enforce site-specific safety programs.
• Good communication and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to develop team members and manage performance.
• Comfortable using production systems/ERP, basic MS Office skills, and the ability to create and maintain production reports.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., welding certification, Lean/CI, OSHA) are a plus.
