Assistant Accountant

About the role

This role combines accounting and internal audit responsibilities, managing day-to-day financial transactions while conducting internal control audits and compliance checks across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Handle day-to-day accounting transactions, including AP, AR, journal entries and general ledger
• Assist with monthly closing, account reconciliations and preparation of management reports
• Verify invoices, payments, expenses and supporting documents for accuracy and proper approval
• Assist in bank reconciliations and monitoring of outstanding balances
• Maintain proper accounting records and supporting documentation
• Assist with GST, audit schedules and statutory reporting requirements
• Perform internal control audits and compliance checks across stores, warehouse and other business operations
• Conduct periodic checks on cash handling, petty cash, inventory, stock movements, purchases, expenses and company assets
• Identify control weaknesses, irregular transactions, discrepancies and potential risks
• Prepare internal audit findings and recommend corrective actions or improvements

About you

• Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
• Relevant accounting experience preferred
• Good understanding of accounting principles and internal controls
• Strong Excel and analytical skills
• Detail-oriented with good investigative and problem-solving ability
• Able to conduct independent checks across different departments and outlets
• High level of integrity and confidentiality
